The Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, UNIRIO for short) is a public higher education institution located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Funded by the federal government and affiliated with the Brazilian Ministry of Education, it was established in 1979 through the integration of several specialized institutions founded in 1969, including the Central School of Nutrition and Alfredo Pinto School of Nursing.
