Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP) is one of Brazil's leading public universities, originating from a medical school founded by a group of physicians in 1933. It was officially converted into a federal university in 1994 and expanded into a comprehensive university through Brazil's government-led University Reform Program (REUNI) in 2005. In academic rankings, the university ranked in the 801-850 range in the 2025 QS World University Rankings, with outstanding performance in medicine and health sciences—its basic medicine program ranks among the top 200 globally, and its student-to-faculty ratio is among the best in Brazilian universities. Currently, UNIFESP offers education from undergraduate to doctoral levels, with programs covering medicine, engineering, social sciences, natural sciences, and other fields. Some programs are taught in English to attract international applicants.
