Founded in 1419, the University of Rostock is the oldest public university in northern Germany and along the Baltic coast, as well as the third oldest continuously operating university in Germany, located in Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. As a comprehensive research university, its campus is deeply integrated with the city, with a history dating back to the Hanseatic League era, and has produced 5 Nobel laureates (including honorary doctors such as Albert Einstein and Max Planck).

The university comprises 9 faculties, including the Faculty of Theology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Marine Technology, and Faculty of Medicine, offering over 70 bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs. Key disciplines include marine technology, agricultural science, biomedicine, and computer science. Its interdisciplinary research strength is particularly prominent in natural sciences and engineering, ranking 651-700 in the 2022 QS World University Rankings, with chemistry entering the global top 200.

校园保留中世纪哥特式建筑与现代设施结合的独特风貌，图书馆藏书达220万册，含2800卷手抄本及古籍。作为波罗的海地区学术中心，该校与全球多所高校建立合作网络，中国合作伙伴包括上海交通大学、华中科技大学等，同时被评为"全球最美15所大学"之一。

The campus features a unique blend of medieval Gothic architecture and modern facilities, with the library holding 2.2 million volumes, including 2,800 manuscripts and ancient books. As an academic hub in the Baltic region, the university has established a global partnership network, with Chinese collaborators such as Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
