The University of Geneva (Université de Genève) is a public research university in the canton of Geneva, Switzerland. Founded in 1559 by the religious reformer John Calvin, it was originally named the Academy of Geneva. As one of the oldest universities in Europe, it enjoys a prestigious reputation in fields such as humanities and social sciences, natural sciences, and medicine. It is a member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU) and an important member of the International Universities Climate Alliance.

Its campuses are distributed in several areas of Geneva, with the main campus located in the Calvin district in the city center, where buildings blend classical and modern styles.

The University of Geneva is characterized by multilingual teaching and internationalized education. It currently has approximately 17,000 students and over 4,000 faculty and staff from more than 150 countries. The university consists of 7 faculties, covering a complete educational system from undergraduate to doctoral levels. It has global influence particularly in disciplines such as international relations, law, life sciences, and particle physics. As of 2023, 10 alumni or professors have been awarded the Nobel Prize.
