University of Ibadan (UI), established in 1932, is Nigeria's oldest university. Formerly an affiliate college of the University of London, it gained full independence in 1962. Located 8 kilometers from the center of Ibadan, a major city in western Nigeria, UI is one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in West Africa, renowned for disciplines such as medicine, agriculture, and social sciences.

Its graduate school is the largest in Africa, with an approximate 1:1 ratio of undergraduate to postgraduate students. Campus facilities include a botanical garden, zoo, modern dormitories, and a distance education center. UI has produced numerous distinguished alumni, including Wole Soyinka, the Nobel laureate in Literature.
