The University of Nice (officially named Université Nice-Sophia Antipolis, now rebranded as Université Côte d'Azur) is a renowned public comprehensive university in southern France. Its roots date back to the 17th-century Nice Law School, formally established by a French government decree in 1965. In 1989, "Sophia Antipolis" was added to its name to highlight its close ties with the local technology park. The main campus is located in Nice, with 7 campuses, 4直属 branches in Sophia Antipolis, and teaching institutions in Cannes and Menton, covering a total area of 200,000 square meters. It boasts strong research capabilities, including 55 national research institutes and 22 laboratories affiliated with CNRS and INSERM. Leading disciplines include mathematics, physics, computer science, and biochemistry, with research outputs frequently transferred to enterprises in the Sophia Antipolis Science Park. The campus integrates historical architecture (such as the Valrose Castle, home to the administrative headquarters) with modern facilities.
