The University of Patras, founded in 1964, is located in Patras, Western Greece. As the third-largest public university in Greece, it traditionally excels in science, technology, economics, and social sciences, and has expanded into health sciences, humanities, and other fields. Its main campus spans 2.4 square kilometers, housing 7 faculties, 35 departments, offering 49 undergraduate and 43 postgraduate programs. With over 33,000 students (as of 2019) and more than 1,400 faculty members, including multiple European Academy of Sciences fellows.

Internationally recognized for basic and applied research, the university specializes in environmental science, biotechnology, mechanical engineering, and electronic information, with 161 laboratories and 17 clinics. It participates in numerous EU research programs. The campus features comprehensive facilities: libraries, museums, dormitories, and sports centers, plus 5 branch campuses in cities like Agrinio. As one of Greece’s first universities to adopt the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), its degrees are globally recognized.
