The University of Salerno (Università degli Studi di Salerno) is a public comprehensive university located in Salerno, Campania region, southern Italy. Its history can be traced back to one of the earliest medical schools in medieval Europe—the Schola Medica Salernitana, which was renowned across Europe for medical research and education from the 10th to the 13th centuries and was known as the "cradle of medieval medicine." The modern University of Salerno was re-established in 1968 and has since grown into one of Italy's larger universities with a comprehensive range of disciplines, including science and technology, humanities, social sciences, medicine, and economics. It maintains a strong academic reputation particularly in medicine, engineering, and natural sciences.
