武汉体育学院原名中南体育学院，是新中国成立后首批独立设置的全日制普通高等体育院校之一，1953年成立于江西省南昌市，1955年迁至湖北省武汉市，1956年更名为武汉体育学院，为国家体育总局直属院校，2001年调整为国家体育总局与湖北省人民政府共建。学校秉承“公勇诚毅，学思辨行”校训，坚持“融体育、科技、人文教育为一体，集道德、文化、专业素质于一身”的办学理念，办学70余年来，为国家培养输送了15万余名优秀人才。

Wuhan Sports University, formerly known as Central South Institute of Physical Education, is one of the first full-time ordinary institutions of higher physical education independently established after the founding of the People's Republic of China. It was founded in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province in 1953, moved to Wuhan, Hubei Province in 1955, and renamed Wuhan Sports University in 1956. It was directly under the State General Administration of Sport and adjusted to be co-constructed by the State General Administration of Sport and the People's Government of Hubei Province in 2001. Adhering to the school motto of "Integrity, Courage, Sincerity, Perseverance; Learning, Thinking, Discriminating, Practicing" and the educational philosophy of "Integrating physical education, science and technology, and humanities education; integrating morality, culture, and professional quality", the university has cultivated and sent more than 150,000 outstanding talents to the country over the past 70 years.

学校学科专业建设成绩显著，体育学一级学科优势突出，入选湖北省省属高校一流学科培育建设学科，在教育部历轮学科评估中均位居前列。现有27个本科专业面向全国招生，其中国家级、省级一流本科专业13个，涵盖教育学、文学、管理学、理学、工学、艺术学、医学等7个学科门类。竞技体育特色鲜明，累计在世界三大赛获得金牌218枚，培养输送了杨威、程菲、管晨辰、王宗源等一大批为国争光的优秀运动员。

The university has made remarkable achievements in discipline and professional construction. The first-level discipline of Sports Science has outstanding advantages, being selected into the first-class discipline cultivation and construction disciplines of Hubei provincial universities, and has ranked among the top in previous discipline evaluations by the Ministry of Education. Currently, it has 27 undergraduate majors enrolling students nationwide, including 13 national and provincial first-class undergraduate majors, covering 7 disciplines such as Education, Literature, Management, Science, Engineering, Art, and Medicine. It has distinct characteristics in competitive sports, having won 218 gold medals in the three major world competitions and cultivated a large number of outstanding athletes who have won honors for the country, such as Yang Wei, Cheng Fei, Guan Chenchen, and Wang Zongyuan.
