西北民族大学是中华人民共和国成立后创建的第一所民族高等院校，隶属于国家民族事务委员会，是国家中西部高校基础能力建设工程支持高校、甘肃省高水平大学建设单位。学校坐落于甘肃省兰州市，前身是1950年8月成立的西北民族学院，2003年4月更名为西北民族大学。

Northwest Minzu University is the first higher education institution for ethnic minorities established after the founding of the People's Republic of China. It is affiliated to the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, and is a university supported by the National Midwestern University Basic Capacity Building Project and a high-level university construction unit in Gansu Province. Located in Lanzhou, Gansu Province, the university was formerly known as Northwest Institute for Ethnic Minorities, established in August 1950, and was renamed Northwest Minzu University in April 2003.

学校现有两个校区，占地面积1776亩，设有25个教学单位，涵盖经济学、法学、教育学、文学、历史学、理学、工学、农学、医学、管理学、艺术学等11个学科门类，拥有博士学位授权一级学科3个，硕士学位授权一级学科23个，硕士专业学位类别19个，本科专业77个。

The university has two campuses covering an area of 1,776 mu, with 25 teaching units. It covers 11 disciplines including economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and art. It has 3 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 23 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, 19 categories of master's professional degrees, and 77 undergraduate majors.

学校始终坚持立德树人根本任务，着力培养各民族合格人才，现有全日制在校生3万余人，其中少数民族学生占比超过60%。学校注重学科建设与科研创新，拥有多个国家级、省部级科研平台和重点学科，在民族学、社会学、中国语言文学等领域形成了鲜明的办学特色和优势。

The university has always adhered to the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education and strived to cultivate qualified talents of all ethnic groups. It currently has more than 30,000 full-time students, among whom ethnic minority students account for more than 60%. The university focuses on discipline construction and scientific research innovation, with multiple national and provincial-level scientific research platforms and key disciplines, and has formed distinct school-running characteristics and advantages in fields such as ethnology, sociology, and Chinese language and literature.
