西安交通大学是国家教育部直属重点大学，为我国最早兴办的高等学府之一。其前身是1896年创建于上海的南洋公学，1921年改称交通大学，1956年国务院决定交通大学内迁西安，1959年定名西安交通大学，并被列为全国重点大学。西安交通大学是“七五”“八五”重点建设单位，首批进入国家“211工程”和“985工程”建设高校，2017年入选国家“双一流”建设A类高校。

Xi'an Jiaotong University is a key university directly under the Ministry of Education of China and one of the earliest institutions of higher learning in China. Its predecessor was Nanyang Public School founded in Shanghai in 1896. In 1921, it was renamed Jiaotong University. In 1956, the State Council decided to move Jiaotong University to Xi'an. In 1959, it was named Xi'an Jiaotong University and listed as a national key university. Xi'an Jiaotong University was a key construction unit during the "Seventh Five-Year Plan" and "Eighth Five-Year Plan" periods. It was among the first batch of universities to enter the "211 Project" and "985 Project" construction, and was selected as a Class A university in the national "Double First-Class" construction in 2017.
