长江大学是湖北省属高校中规模最大、学科门类较全的综合性大学，是湖北省重点建设高校、国家“中西部高校基础能力建设工程”入选高校、湖北省“国内一流大学建设高校”。学校于2003年4月经国家教育部批准，由原江汉石油学院、湖北农学院、荆州师范学院、湖北省卫生职工医学院合并组建而成，办学历史可追溯至1931年创建的湖北省立教育学院。

Yangtze University is a comprehensive university with the largest scale and the most complete disciplines among the universities affiliated to Hubei Province. It is a key construction university in Hubei Province, a university selected into the "Basic Capacity Construction Project for Universities in Central and Western China", and a "Domestic First-class University Construction University" in Hubei Province. Approved by the Ministry of Education in April 2003, the university was formed by the merger of the former Jianghan Petroleum Institute, Hubei Agricultural College, Jingzhou Normal College, and Hubei Health Workers College. Its school-running history can be traced back to the Hubei Provincial Institute of Education founded in 1931.

学校现有荆州、武汉两个校区，校园占地面积5118亩。设有26个学院，107个本科专业，涵盖经济学、法学、教育学、文学、历史学、理学、工学、农学、医学、管理学、艺术学等11大学科门类。现有全日制普通本专科生32000余人，全日制博士、硕士研究生6000余人，外国留学生1000余人。

The university currently has two campuses in Jingzhou and Wuhan, covering an area of 5118 mu. It has 26 colleges and 107 undergraduate majors, covering 11 disciplines including economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and art. There are more than 32,000 full-time ordinary undergraduates and junior college students, more than 6,000 full-time doctoral and master students, and more than 1,000 international students.

学校坚持以立德树人为根本任务，始终把人才培养质量放在首位，大力推进教育教学改革，着力培养学生的创新精神和实践能力。学校现有国家级一流本科专业建设点32个，省级一流本科专业建设点31个；国家级特色专业6个，省级品牌专业11个；国家级一流本科课程15门，省级一流本科课程111门。

Adhering to the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, the university always puts the quality of talent training in the first place, vigorously promotes education and teaching reform, and strives to cultivate students' innovative spirit and practical ability. The university currently has 32 national-level first-class undergraduate major construction sites and 31 provincial-level first-class undergraduate major construction sites; 6 national-level characteristic majors and 11 provincial-level brand majors; 15 national-level first-class undergraduate courses and 111 provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses.

学校高度重视科学研究和社会服务，拥有一批国家级和省部级科研平台，在石油天然气勘探开发、农学、水产养殖、生物技术、化工、机械工程等领域具有较强的科研实力和特色优势。近五年来，学校承担国家重点研发计划、国家自然科学基金、国家社会科学基金等国家级项目400余项，省部级项目800余项，获省部级及以上科研奖励100余项。

The university attaches great importance to scientific research and social services, and has a number of national and provincial scientific research platforms. It has strong scientific research strength and characteristic advantages in the fields of oil and gas exploration and development, agriculture, aquaculture, biotechnology, chemical industry, mechanical engineering, etc. In the past five years, the university has undertaken more than 400 national-level projects such as the National Key R&D Program, the National Natural Science Foundation, and the National Social Science Foundation, more than 800 provincial-level projects, and has won more than 100 scientific research awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level.
