云南艺术学院始建于1959年，其前身可追溯至1938年西南联大的文化生活部和师范学院，是我国西南地区特色鲜明、艺术门类齐全的综合性高等艺术院校，也是全国8所综合性普通本科高等艺术院校之一。学校现有呈贡、麻园两个校区，占地面积共930余亩，设有音乐学院、美术学院、设计学院等12个教学单位及1个附属艺术学校，全日制在校生10990人，教职工1088人（含编外派遣制人员）。

Yunnan Arts University was founded in 1959, with its predecessor tracing back to the Cultural Life Department and Normal College of Southwest Associated University in 1938. It is a comprehensive higher art institution with distinctive characteristics and complete art disciplines in Southwest China, and one of the 8 national comprehensive ordinary undergraduate higher art colleges. The university has two campuses, Chenggong and Mayuan, covering a total area of over 930 mu. It has 12 teaching units including the School of Music, School of Fine Arts, School of Design, etc., and one affiliated art school, with 10,990 full-time students and 1,088 faculty members (including dispatched personnel outside the establishment).

学校学科实力雄厚，2003年获批硕士学位授予权，2009年成为艺术硕士（MFA）专业学位培养单位及云南省博士学位授予权培育建设单位，2019年获批艺术学理论省级博士后科研工作站。现有艺术学、设计学2个一级学科，音乐、舞蹈等5个专业领域，拥有2个省级特色优势学科、3个省级A类高原学科，14个国家级一流本科专业建设点和10个省级一流本科专业建设点，6门国家级一流本科课程及21门省级一流本科课程。在2020年教育部第五轮学科评估中，美术学、戏剧与影视学等学科成绩优异。

The university has strong disciplinary strength. It was approved for master's degree authorization in 2003, became a professional degree training unit for Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and a cultivation and construction unit for doctoral degree authorization in Yunnan Province in 2009, and was approved for a provincial post-doctoral research workstation in Art Theory in 2019. Currently, it has 2 first-level disciplines of Art and Design, 5 professional fields such as Music and Dance, 2 provincial characteristic and advantageous disciplines, 3 provincial Class A plateau disciplines, 14 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 10 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 6 national first-class undergraduate courses and 21 provincial first-class undergraduate courses. In the fifth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education in 2020, disciplines such as Fine Arts and Drama and Film Studies achieved excellent results.
