Yunnan Normal University is a key provincial normal university with a long history and profound cultural heritage. Its predecessor was the Normal College of the National Southwest Associated University, which was founded in the flames of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression in 1938. Upholding the school motto of "Perseverance and Integrity" from the Southwest Associated University, the university has formed a school spirit of "Excellence in Knowledge and Morality, Bright Virtue and Wisdom", cultivating a large number of outstanding talents for the country and society, and making important contributions in education, scientific research, and social services.

学校现有呈贡、一二·一两个校区，占地面积3330亩，校舍建筑面积143万平方米。设有24个学院，87个本科专业，涵盖哲学、经济学、法学、教育学、文学、历史学、理学、工学、管理学、艺术学等10大学科门类。拥有17个省级重点学科，6个博士后科研流动站，9个一级学科博士学位授权点，29个一级学科硕士学位授权点，26个专业硕士学位授权点。

The university currently has two campuses: Chenggong and December 1st, covering an area of 3,330 mu with a building area of 1.43 million square meters. It has 24 colleges and 87 undergraduate majors, covering 10 disciplines including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, and art. It boasts 17 provincial key disciplines, 6 post-doctoral research stations, 9 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 29 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, and 26 professional master's degree authorization points.

作为全国第二批深化创新创业教育改革示范高校，云南师范大学始终坚持立德树人根本任务，以培养高素质专业化创新型人才为目标，积极推进教育教学改革，加强学科建设和师资队伍建设，注重学生实践能力和创新精神的培养。学校先后荣获“全国文明校园”“全国创新创业典型经验高校”等荣誉称号，是教育部“卓越教师培养计划”实施高校和国家级大学生创新创业训练计划实施高校。
