燕山大学是河北省人民政府、教育部、工业和信息化部、国家国防科技工业局四方共建的全国重点大学，坐落于河北省秦皇岛市。学校源于1920年创建的哈尔滨工业大学，1958年从哈尔滨迁至富拉尔基，更名为东北重型机械学院，1997年整体迁至秦皇岛市，更名为燕山大学，1998年由原机械工业部划转到河北省，实行中央与地方共建，以河北省管理为主。

Yanshan University is a national key university jointly built by the People's Government of Hebei Province, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. It is located in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province. The university originated from Harbin Institute of Technology founded in 1920. In 1958, it moved from Harbin to Fularji and was renamed Northeast Heavy Machinery Institute. In 1997, it moved to Qinhuangdao City as a whole and was renamed Yanshan University. In 1998, it was transferred from the former Ministry of Machinery Industry to Hebei Province,实行ing a system of joint construction by the central and local governments, with Hebei Province as the main administrative body.

学校学科实力雄厚，形成了以工学为主，文学、理学、经济学、管理学、法学、艺术学、教育学等多学科协调发展的学科格局。在第四轮学科评估中，机械工程学科获评A类，材料科学与工程、控制科学与工程等学科获评B类。学校拥有6个博士后科研流动站，11个博士学位授权一级学科，30个硕士学位授权一级学科，19个硕士专业学位授权类别，68个本科专业。

The university has strong disciplinary strength, forming a disciplinary pattern with engineering as the main focus and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as literature, science, economics, management, law, art, and education. In the fourth round of discipline evaluation, the discipline of Mechanical Engineering was awarded Class A, and disciplines such as Materials Science and Engineering, and Control Science and Engineering were awarded Class B. The university has 6 post-doctoral research stations, 11 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 30 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, 19 categories of master's professional degree authorization, and 68 undergraduate majors.
