益阳医学高等专科学校创建于1950年，前身为益阳卫生学校，实行“省市共建共管、以市为主”的管理体制，是湖南省唯一一所医药卫生类全日制高等专科学校。学校面向全国17个省份招生，全日制在校学生11000余人，设有7个学院、18个专业，拥有1所直属综合型附属医院、1所直属附属口腔医院及多所教学医院，护理、药学、临床医学专业群为湖南省楚怡高水平高职专业群建设计划A档单位。

Yiyang Medical College was founded in 1950, formerly known as Yiyang Health School. It operates under the management system of "co-construction and management by provinces and cities, with the city as the main body" and is the only full-time medical higher vocational college in Hunan Province. The college enrolls students from 17 provinces nationwide, with over 11,000 full-time students. It consists of 7 schools offering 18 majors, and has 1 directly affiliated general hospital, 1 directly affiliated stomatological hospital, and multiple teaching hospitals. The nursing, pharmacy, and clinical medicine professional groups are Class A units in the Hunan Chuyi High-level Vocational Professional Group Construction Plan.

学校是全国首批急救教育试点学校、国家医师资格考试实践技能考试（口腔类别）基地、全国红十字模范单位、国家自然科学基金依托单位，荣获“湖南省文明高校”“湖南省最美高校”等称号。校训为“明德弘医，博学致远”，秉承“家园文化”育人理念，建有环洞庭湖血吸虫与病原微生物感染控制技术重点实验室等科研平台，形成了集教学、科研、医疗服务于一体的医药卫生人才培养体系。

The college is a national first-batch first-aid education pilot school, a national medical qualification examination practical skills test (stomatology category) base, a national Red Cross model unit, and a national natural science foundation supporting unit. It has been awarded titles such as "Hunan Civilized College" and "Hunan Most Beautiful College". With the school motto "Virtue and Medical Mission, Erudition and Aspiration", it adheres to the educational philosophy of "homeland culture" and has established key laboratories such as the Dongting Lake Region Schistosomiasis and Pathogen Infection Control Technology Key Laboratory, forming a medical and health talent training system integrating teaching, scientific research, and medical services.
