甘肃有色冶金职业技术学院是由金昌市人民政府和金川集团股份有限公司共同出资兴建的全日制公立高等职业技术院校。学院前身是始建于1984年的金川集团公司职工大学和金昌师范学校，2010年7月经甘肃省人民政府批准、教育部备案合并改建为现校名。学院现为甘肃省高职院校“双高”建设单位，教育部“1+X证书”制度试点院校、国家级节约型公共机构示范单位、陇原工匠培训基地，占地面积916亩，重点培养有色金属新材料领域高素质技术技能人才。

Gansu Vocational and Technical College of Nonferrous Metallurgy is a full-time public higher vocational college co-funded by the People's Government of Jinchang City and Jinchuan Group Co., Ltd. Its predecessor was Jinchuan Group Staff University and Jinchang Normal School, both founded in 1984. In July 2010, with the approval of the Gansu Provincial People's Government and the record of the Ministry of Education, the two schools were merged and restructured into the current college. It is now a "Double High-Level" construction unit of Gansu vocational colleges, a pilot institution for the "1+X Certificate" system of the Ministry of Education, a national model unit for economical public institutions, and a training base for Longyuan Craftsmen, covering an area of 916 mu, focusing on cultivating high-quality technical talents in the field of nonferrous metal new materials.

学院秉持“取精用弘、卓尔不群”的办学理念和“学无止境、行至于善”的校训，构建了以有色金属智能冶金技术为核心的专业群体系。通过“1+1+N”就业工作体系深化产教融合，以金川集团为核心战略伙伴，联合有色金属新材料行业企业开展订单培养，近五年毕业生就业去向落实率持续保持在90%以上，为区域经济社会发展输送了大量技术技能人才。

Adhering to the school-running philosophy of "Selecting the Essence and Using It Vastly, Standing Out from the Crowd" and the school motto of "Learning Knows No Bounds, Practicing to Perfection", the college has built a professional group system with intelligent metallurgical technology of nonferrous metals as the core. It deepens industry-education integration through the "1+1+N" employment work system, taking Jinchuan Group as the core strategic partner and cooperating with nonferrous metal new material enterprises to carry out order-based training. The employment rate of graduates has remained above 90% for nearly five years, providing a large number of technical and skilled talents for regional economic and social development.
