汉口学院是经教育部批准设立的多学科、综合性民办普通本科高等学校。学校创立于2000年，其前身为华中师范大学汉口分校。2011年经湖北省人民政府申报，教育部批准，转设并更名为汉口学院，是全国首批由独立学院转设为普通民办本科高校的17所高校之一。2012年获批为学士学位授予单位，2014年成为湖北省同类高校中率先进入二本招生的高校，也是湖北省民办高校首批联合招收培养硕士研究生的高校之一。

Hankou University is a multidisciplinary and comprehensive private ordinary undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education. Founded in 2000, its predecessor was Hankou Branch of Central China Normal University. In 2011, upon application by the People's Government of Hubei Province and approval by the Ministry of Education, it was transformed and renamed Hankou University, being one of the first 17 universities in China to be transformed from independent colleges into ordinary private undergraduate institutions. It was approved as a bachelor's degree-granting unit in 2012, became the first university in Hubei Province to enroll students at the second-tier level among similar institutions in 2014, and is also one of the first private universities in Hubei Province to jointly recruit and train postgraduate students.

学校设有12个教学单位，开设31个本科专业，涵盖工学、艺术学、管理学、文学、经济学、教育学、法学等七大学科门类。拥有湖北省重点培育学科2个，省级一流本科专业建设点7个，省级专业综合改革试点项目3个。校园占地1462亩，主校区位于武汉市江夏区汤逊湖畔，另设京山校区。图书馆馆藏纸质图书158.29万册，电子图书250.4万册，现有全日制在校本专科生13439人，专任教师中高级职称占比41.71%，硕士及博士学位教师占比88.79%。

The university has 12 teaching units and offers 31 undergraduate majors, covering seven disciplines including engineering, art, management, literature, economics, education, and law. It has 2 key cultivation disciplines in Hubei Province, 7 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and 3 provincial professional comprehensive reform pilot projects. The campus covers an area of 1462 mu, with the main campus located by Tangxun Lake in Jiangxia District, Wuhan, and another Jingshan campus. The library has a collection of 1.5829 million paper books and 2.504 million e-books. Currently, there are 13,439 full-time undergraduate and junior college students, and among the full-time teachers, 41.71% have senior professional titles, and 88.79% have master's or doctoral degrees.

学校秉承“敢为人先、实事求是、志存高远、追求卓越”的校训，坚持“以生为本、育人为本”的办学理念，注重培养应用型人才。近三年学生获国家级奖项360项，省级奖项980项，毕业生初次就业率连续保持在90%以上，用人单位满意度达98%以上，先后荣获“全国十佳独立学院”“湖北省高等学校就业工作先进单位”等荣誉称号。

Adhering to the school motto of "Daring to be the First, Seeking Truth from Facts, Aspiring High, and Pursuing Excellence", the university adheres to the school-running philosophy of "Student-Oriented and Education-Oriented", focusing on cultivating applied talents. In the past three years, students have won 360 national awards and 980 provincial awards. The initial employment rate of graduates has remained above 90% for a long time, and the satisfaction rate of employers has reached over 98%. It has successively won honors such as "National Top Ten Independent Colleges" and "Advanced Unit for Employment Work in Hubei Provincial Colleges and Universities".
