湖南化工职业技术学院创建于1958年，前身为湖南省化学工业学校，是由湖南省政府举办、教育厅直属的公办全日制普通高校。学校先后与湖南省资江化工学校、湖南化工机械学校（湖南工业高级技工学校）合并，2003年4月升格为高职院校，是首批全国党建工作示范高校、国家“双高计划”建设单位、国家优质专科高等职业院校，也是湖南省“十四五”本科层次职业大学筹建单位。

Hunan Chemical Vocational Technology College was founded in 1958, formerly known as Hunan Chemical Industry School. It is a public full-time ordinary college sponsored by the Hunan Provincial Government and directly under the Education Department. The college was merged with Hunan Zijiang Chemical School and Hunan Chemical Machinery School (Hunan Industrial Senior Technical School) successively, and was upgraded to a higher vocational college in April 2003. It is one of the first national demonstration colleges for party building work, a construction unit of the national "Double High Plan", a national high-quality vocational college, and also a preparation unit for undergraduate-level vocational universities in Hunan Province during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period.

学校坚持“根植化工、合作育人、创新驱动、铸造品牌”的办学理念，设有10个二级学院（教学部），开设35个招生专业（含方向），形成了紧密对接绿色制造、生物医药、人工智能等产业的“四主三支撑”专业集群。现有全日制在校生15600余人（含留学生），教职工700余人，拥有国家职业教育教师教学创新团队2个、国家级生产性实训基地1个，近五年学生在省级以上职业技能竞赛中获奖300余项。

Adhering to the school-running philosophy of "rooted in chemical industry, cooperative education, innovation-driven, and brand-building", the college has 10 secondary colleges (teaching departments) and offers 35 enrollment majors (including directions), forming a "four main and three supporting" professional cluster closely connected with green manufacturing, biomedicine, artificial intelligence and other industries. Currently, it has more than 15,600 full-time students (including international students) and over 700 faculty members. It has 2 national vocational education teacher teaching innovation teams and 1 national productive training base. In the past five years, students have won more than 300 awards in vocational skills competitions above the provincial level.
