China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) is a key national university directly under the Ministry of Education. 学校前身是1952年由北京大学、清华大学、天津大学和唐山铁道学院等院校的地质系(科)合并组建的北京地质学院。1960年被评为全国重点高校。1970年,学校迁至湖北江陵,更名为湖北地质学院。1975年,学校迁至武汉,更名为武汉地质学院。1987年,国家教育委员会批准武汉地质学院更名为中国地质大学,在武汉、北京两地办学,总部设在武汉。2000年,学校由国土资源部划归教育部管理。2005年,教育部批准中国地质大学(武汉)和中国地质大学(北京)分别独立办学。
The predecessor of the university was Beijing Institute of Geology, which was established in 1952 by merging the geology departments (sections) of Peking University, Tsinghua University, Tianjin University, Tangshan Railway Institute and other institutions. It was rated as a national key university in 1960. In 1970, the university moved to Jiangling, Hubei Province and was renamed Hubei Institute of Geology. In 1975, it moved to Wuhan and was renamed Wuhan Institute of Geology. In 1987, with the approval of the State Education Commission, Wuhan Institute of Geology was renamed China University of Geosciences, running schools in both Wuhan and Beijing with its headquarters in Wuhan. In 2000, the university was transferred from the Ministry of Land and Resources to the management of the Ministry of Education. In 2005, the Ministry of Education approved China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) and China University of Geosciences (Beijing) to run schools independently.
