中国地质大学（武汉）是教育部直属全国重点大学，是国家“211工程”、“985工程优势学科创新平台”建设高校，国家“双一流”建设高校。学校以地球科学为主要特色，理工文管经法教艺等多学科协调发展，涵盖哲学、经济学、法学、教育学、文学、理学、工学、农学、医学、管理学、艺术学等11大学科门类。学校拥有地质学、地质资源与地质工程2个国家一级重点学科，16个湖北省重点学科，地质学、地质资源与地质工程、环境科学与工程、土木工程、测绘科学与技术、材料科学与工程等6个学科入选国家“双一流”建设学科。学校在长期的办学实践中，形成了“艰苦朴素、求真务实”的校训，“严在地大、学在地大”的校风，“谋求人与自然和谐发展”的办学理念。

China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) is a key national university directly under the Ministry of Education. It is a university under the "211 Project", "985 Project Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform" and a national "Double First-Class" construction university. The university features earth sciences and promotes coordinated development of multiple disciplines including science, engineering, arts, management, economics, law, education and art, covering 11 disciplines such as philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management and art. It has 2 national first-class key disciplines (geology, geological resources and geological engineering), 16 key disciplines in Hubei Province, and 6 disciplines selected into the national "Double First-Class" construction disciplines (geology, geological resources and geological engineering, environmental science and engineering, civil engineering, surveying and mapping science and technology, materials science and engineering). In the long-term school-running practice, the university has formed the school motto of "Plain Living and Hard Struggle, Seeking Truth and Being Pragmatic", the school spirit of "Strictness and Learning at CUG", and the school-running philosophy of "Seeking Harmonious Development between Man and Nature".

学校前身是1952年由北京大学、清华大学、天津大学和唐山铁道学院等院校的地质系（科）合并组建的北京地质学院。1960年被评为全国重点高校。1970年，学校迁至湖北江陵，更名为湖北地质学院。1975年，学校迁至武汉，更名为武汉地质学院。1987年，国家教育委员会批准武汉地质学院更名为中国地质大学，在武汉、北京两地办学，总部设在武汉。2000年，学校由国土资源部划归教育部管理。2005年，教育部批准中国地质大学（武汉）和中国地质大学（北京）分别独立办学。

The predecessor of the university was Beijing Institute of Geology, which was established in 1952 by merging the geology departments (sections) of Peking University, Tsinghua University, Tianjin University, Tangshan Railway Institute and other institutions. It was rated as a national key university in 1960. In 1970, the university moved to Jiangling, Hubei Province and was renamed Hubei Institute of Geology. In 1975, it moved to Wuhan and was renamed Wuhan Institute of Geology. In 1987, with the approval of the State Education Commission, Wuhan Institute of Geology was renamed China University of Geosciences, running schools in both Wuhan and Beijing with its headquarters in Wuhan. In 2000, the university was transferred from the Ministry of Land and Resources to the management of the Ministry of Education. In 2005, the Ministry of Education approved China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) and China University of Geosciences (Beijing) to run schools independently.

学校在地球科学领域享有盛誉，地质学、地质资源与地质工程两个学科在全国第四轮学科评估中均获得A+等级。学校拥有国家重点实验室2个（地质过程与矿产资源国家重点实验室、生物地质与环境地质国家重点实验室），国家工程技术研究中心1个（国家地理信息系统工程技术研究中心），国家野外科学观测研究站2个，教育部重点实验室5个，教育部工程研究中心3个，湖北省重点实验室16个。学校科研实力雄厚，近年来承担了国家“973”计划、“863”计划、国家科技重大专项、国家自然科学基金重大项目等一大批国家级科研项目，在地质找矿、环境保护、资源可持续利用等领域取得了一系列重大科研成果。

The university enjoys a high reputation in the field of earth sciences. Both geology and geological resources and geological engineering disciplines obtained A+ grades in the fourth round of national discipline evaluation. The university has 2 national key laboratories (State Key Laboratory of Geological Processes and Mineral Resources, State Key Laboratory of Biogeology and Environmental Geology), 1 national engineering technology research center (National Engineering Technology Research Center for Geographic Information System), 2 national field scientific observation and research stations, 5 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 3 engineering research centers of the Ministry of Education, and 16 key laboratories of Hubei Province. With strong scientific research strength, the university has undertaken a large number of national-level scientific research projects in recent years, such as the national "973" Program, "863" Program, major national science and technology projects, and major projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has achieved a series of major scientific research results in the fields of geological prospecting, environmental protection, and sustainable utilization of resources.

学校始终把人才培养作为根本任务，致力于培养德智体美劳全面发展，具有扎实的专业基础、较强的创新能力和国际视野的高素质人才。学校现有全日制在校学生3万余人，其中本科生1.8万余人，硕士研究生1万余人，博士研究生2000余人，留学生1000余人。学校拥有一支结构合理、素质优良的师资队伍，现有教职工3300余人，其中中国科学院院士13人，中国工程院院士1人，俄罗斯科学院外籍院士5人，国家杰出青年科学基金获得者36人，国家优秀青年科学基金获得者35人，国家级教学名师5人，国家级人才项目入选者200余人。

学校位于湖北省武汉市，现有南望山校区、未来城校区两个校区，校园总面积14743亩。南望山校区位于东湖之畔，未来城校区地处武汉东湖新技术开发区（光谷）。学校教学科研设施完善，拥有现代化的教学楼、实验楼、图书馆、体育馆、学生公寓等。图书馆藏书丰富，纸质藏书200余万册，电子图书150余万册，各类数据库100余个。学校注重校园文化建设，积极开展丰富多彩的校园文化活动，形成了以“地大精神”为核心的校园文化体系，营造了浓厚的学术氛围和良好的育人环境。

The university is located in Wuhan, Hubei Province, with two campuses: Nanwangshan Campus and Future City Campus, covering a total area of 14,743 mu. Nanwangshan Campus is located by the East Lake, and Future City Campus is located in Wuhan East Lake New Technology Development Zone (Optics Valley). The university has complete teaching and research facilities, including modern teaching buildings, laboratories, libraries, gymnasiums, student apartments, etc. The library has a rich collection of more than 2 million paper books, more than 1.5 million e-books and more than 100 databases.
