武汉船舶职业技术学院溯源于1950年成立的中南兵工学校，是一所中央与地方共建、湖北省人民政府主办的全日制普通高等职业院校。学校以“立足船舶、服务军工、面向社会”为办学定位，在船舶与海洋工程、智能制造、信息技术等领域形成鲜明特色，是全国首批“国家示范性高等职业院校”“中国特色高水平高职学校和专业建设计划”建设单位。

Wuhan Institute of Shipbuilding Technology traces its roots to the Central South Ordnance School founded in 1950. It is a full-time public higher vocational college co-sponsored by the central and local governments and administered by the Hubei Provincial People's Government. With the orientation of "rooted in shipbuilding, serving military industry, and facing society", the university has formed distinctive strengths in ship and ocean engineering, intelligent manufacturing, and information technology. It is among the first batch of "National Model Higher Vocational Colleges" and a construction unit of the "China特色高水平高职学校和专业建设计划" (Double High-Level Plan).

学校占地1000余亩，拥有国家级职业教育实训基地5个、省级重点实验室3个，建有船舶建造、轮机工程等专业的虚拟仿真实训中心。现有全日制在校生15000余人，教职工800余名，其中教授、副教授占比达40%以上，“双师型”教师占专业教师总数的85%。近年来，学校获国家级教学成果奖5项，主持国家级职业教育专业教学资源库3个。

Covering an area of over 1,000 mu (about 66.7 hectares), the university houses 5 national-level vocational education training bases, 3 provincial key laboratories, and virtual simulation training centers for shipbuilding, marine engineering, and other majors. It currently has over 15,000 full-time students and more than 800 faculty members, including over 40% professors and associate professors, with "dual-qualification" teachers accounting for 85% of professional teachers. In recent years, the university has won 5 national teaching achievement awards and hosted 3 national vocational education professional teaching resource databases.

学校坚持产教融合、校企合作，与中船集团、武汉钢铁等200余家企业建立深度合作关系，共建现代产业学院6个。毕业生就业率连续多年保持在96%以上，用人单位满意度达95%，形成“进口旺、出口畅”的良好办学局面，被誉为“中国船舶工业技术技能人才的摇篮”。
