Beibu Gulf University is located in Qinzhou City, an important hub city of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor and a coastal canal city in the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone. It is a comprehensive full-time ordinary institution of higher learning with engineering, science, and management as its main disciplines and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. It is a university qualified for national seafarers training and also a school with Lingnan style, coastal scenery, and Southeast Asian style campus architecture, awarded as a 3A-level scenic spot.

学校前身为1973年创办的钦州地区师范学校；2006年2月，教育部批准学校升格为钦州学院；2018年3月，国务院学位委员会批准学校成为硕士学位授权单位；2018年11月，教育部批准在钦州学院基础上设立北部湾大学。中央和自治区党委政府高度重视和支持北部湾大学建设，国务院和自治区政府在各种文件中多次强调要加快支持北部湾大学建设，助力培养高质量的海洋、航海类人才。

The predecessor of the university was Qinzhou Regional Normal School founded in 1973; In February 2006, the Ministry of Education approved the university to be upgraded to Qinzhou University; In March 2018, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council approved the university to become a master's degree authorized unit; In November 2018, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of Beibu Gulf University on the basis of Qinzhou University. The Central and Autonomous Region Party Committees and Governments attach great importance to and support the construction of Beibu Gulf University. The State Council and the Autonomous Region Government have repeatedly emphasized in various documents the need to accelerate support for the construction of Beibu Gulf University to help cultivate high-quality marine and navigation talents.

学校校区位于钦州市滨海新城，占地面积2070亩，建筑面积约70.9万平方米。教学科研实习仪器设备6.069亿元。学校图书馆建筑面积4.4万余平方米。图书馆现有纸质图书236.68万册，电子图书292.10万种（册），中外文数据库31个，中外文期刊754种，中外文电子期刊104.83万余册。具有智慧校园平台。

The university campus is located in Binhai New City, Qinzhou City, covering an area of 2070 mu and a building area of about 709,000 square meters. The teaching, scientific research and internship instruments and equipment are 606.9 million yuan. The university library has a construction area of more than 44,000 square meters. The library currently has 2.3668 million paper books, 2.9210 million kinds (volumes) of e-books, 31 Chinese and foreign databases, 754 kinds of Chinese and foreign periodicals, and more than 1.0483 million Chinese and foreign electronic periodicals. It has a smart campus platform.
