Changsha University was founded in 1970, with its educational origins traceable to the Changsha Revolutionary Committee Teacher Training Class in November 1970, Changsha Basic University in July 1978, and Changsha University in May 1983. It is a master's degree-granting unit, an application-oriented undergraduate university under the National "13th Five-Year Plan" Industry-Education Integration Development Project, a National Demonstration Base for Practical Education, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Colleges and Universities, a Hunan Provincial "Double First-Class" High-Level Applied Characteristic College, a Hunan Provincial first-tier enrollment university, and a Hunan Provincial Civilized University. 学校坐落于世界媒体艺术之都、中国历史文化名城、长江中游地区重要中心城市、省会级特大城市——长沙，位于国家级文化产业示范园区、国家文化和科技融合示范基地——马栏山视频文创园核心功能区内。校区占地1970余亩，校舍建筑面积约50.62万平方米，教学科研仪器设备总值约3亿元，藏书166.26万册。校园湖光山色，风景秀美，为湖南省园林式单位，被誉为“最美大学校园”。学校下设二级学院16个，本科专业51个，拥有电子信息、生物与医药、戏剧与影视3个硕士专业学位授权点，现有国家一流本科专业建设点11个、省级应用特色学科8个。

The university is located in Changsha, a world-famous media art capital, a national historical and cultural city, an important central city in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and a provincial capital megacity. It is situated in the core functional area of Malanshan Video Cultural and Creative Park, a national-level cultural industry demonstration park and a national cultural and technological integration demonstration base. The campus covers an area of more than 1970 mu, with a building area of about 506,200 square meters, teaching and research equipment worth about 300 million yuan, and a collection of 1.6626 million books. With beautiful lakes and mountains, the campus is a Hunan Provincial Garden Unit and is known as "the most beautiful university campus". The university has 16 secondary colleges, 51 undergraduate majors, 3 master's professional degree authorization points in electronic information, biology and medicine, and drama and film, with 11 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites and 8 provincial applied characteristic disciplines.
