贵州理工学院于2013年4月18日经教育部批准成立，是贵州省委、贵州省人民政府实施工业强省战略和城镇化带动战略对理工类应用型人才之需，设立的全日制公办理工类省属普通本科院校。学校坚持特色创校、质量立校、人才兴校、科技强校的内涵式发展道路，按照重工厚理、强管兴文、交叉融合、突出特色的学科建设思路，探索和构建学科-专业-平台-团队-项目-成果一体化建设发展体系。

Guizhou Institute of Technology was approved by the Ministry of Education on April 18, 2013. It is a full-time public undergraduate institution of higher learning established by the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee and the People's Government of Guizhou Province to meet the demand for applied talents in science and engineering in the implementation of the strategies of strengthening the province through industry and driving urbanization. 2014年，入选中西部高校基础能力建设工程；2017年，成为全国首批深化创新创业教育改革示范高校，发起成立中国—东盟高校创新创业联盟；2019年，获批与英国贝德福特大学联合举办电气工程及其自动化中外合作办学项目，顺利通过教育部普通高等学校本科教学工作合格评估；2021年，获批新增硕士学位授予立项建设单位和贵州省首批三全育人综合改革试点高校；2022年，获批为国家级创新创业学院；2024年，获批试点建设贵州省卓越工程师学院；2025年，获批设立贵州理工学院哈瓦那科技大学联合学院中外合作办学机构。

In 2014, it was selected into the basic capacity building project for colleges and universities in central and western China; In 2017, it became one of the first national demonstration universities for deepening the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education, and initiated the establishment of the China - ASEAN University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance; In 2019, it was approved to jointly run the Sino-foreign cooperative education program of Electrical Engineering and Automation with the University of Bedfordshire in the UK, and successfully passed the qualification assessment of undergraduate teaching in ordinary colleges and universities by the Ministry of Education; In 2021, it was approved as a new master's degree granting project construction unit and one of the first pilot universities for the comprehensive reform of three - full education in Guizhou Province; In 2022, it was approved as a national innovation and entrepreneurship college; In 2024, it was approved to pilot the construction of Guizhou Institute of Excellence Engineers; In 2025, it was approved to establish the Joint College of Guizhou Institute of Technology and Havana University of Technology, a Sino-foreign cooperative education institution.

学校地处贵州省贵安新区，位于大学城博士路，办学面积1336亩，建筑面积66.9万平方米。现设置19个学院、1个大学科技孵化园、41个本科专业，涵盖工学、理学、管理学等多个学科门类。植物与动物学学科进入ESI全球排名前1%。机械设计制造及其自动化、飞行器制造工程等2个专业为国家级一流本科专业建设点。现有贵州省区域内一流建设学科1个，省级重点学科2个，省级特色重点培育学科1个，省级重点支持学科4个，省级重点支持培育学科2个。

The university is located in Gui'an New District, Guizhou Province, on Doctor Road of the University Town, with a school-running area of 1,336 mu and a building area of 669,000 square meters. At present, it has 19 colleges, 1 university science and technology incubator, and 41 undergraduate majors, covering engineering, science, management and other disciplines. The discipline of Plant and Animal Science has entered the top 1% of ESI global ranking. Two majors, including Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, and Aircraft Manufacturing Engineering, are national first-class undergraduate major construction sites. There is 1 first-class construction discipline in Guizhou Province, 2 provincial key disciplines, 1 provincial characteristic key cultivation discipline, 4 provincial key support disciplines, and 2 provincial key support cultivation disciplines.

分别与中航贵飞公司、阿里巴巴集团、贵州磷化集团等头部企业开展联合办学。学校建有贵州省轻金属材料制备技术重点实验室、贵州省新型电力系统运行控制全省重点实验室、贵州省土木工程健康监测与智能防灾工程研究中心、贵州省能源智能开发与高效利用实验室等省部级科研平台10个、厅级科研平台20个，省级科技创新人才团队8个，省级人才基地2个，省级人才培养基地1个。建有镁及镁合金国际标准研制创新示范基地，共建国家铝镁电解装备工程技术研究中心熔盐电化反应实验基地。
