海口经济学院是2008年经国家教育部批准成立的海南省第一所独立设置的民办本科高校，其办学历史可追溯至1974年创办的海口业余大学，历经海口职业大学、海口经济职业技术学院等发展阶段。学校牢固树立应用型人才培养定位，贯彻“一个中心（人才培养）、两根主线（教学、科研）、三大建设（师资队伍、学科专业、条件环境）”的发展思路，全面推进“两个转型（高职教育向本科教育转型、规模发展向内涵建设转型）”，办学实力与人才培养质量稳步提升。

Haikou University of Economics is the first independently established private undergraduate university in Hainan Province approved by the Ministry of Education in 2008. Its educational history dates back to Haikou Amateur University founded in 1974, evolving through stages such as Haikou Vocational University and Haikou Economic Vocational and Technical College. The university firmly adheres to the orientation of cultivating applied talents, implements the development思路 of "one center (talent cultivation), two main lines (teaching and scientific research), and three major constructions (faculty team, disciplines and majors, and conditions and environment)", and comprehensively promotes "two transformations (from higher vocational education to undergraduate education, and from scale development to connotation construction)", with steady improvement in school-running strength and talent cultivation quality.

学校办学条件优越，校园总占地面积约1800亩，建筑面积73.88万平方米，总投资逾30亿元。下设18个二级学院（系）及4个教学部（院），开设52个本科专业和50个专科专业，涵盖经济学、管理学、文学、工学、艺术学、教育学等6大学科门类。现有全日制在校生31831人，其中本科生18883人、本科留学生31人、专科生12948人。教学科研仪器设备总值1.80亿元，图书馆馆藏纸质图书173.8万余册、数字资源691.9万册，为学生提供了良好的学习与生活环境。

The university boasts superior办学 conditions, with a total campus area of approximately 1800 mu, a building area of 738,800 square meters, and a total investment of over 3 billion yuan. It has 18 secondary colleges (departments) and 4 teaching departments (colleges), offering 52 undergraduate majors and 50 junior college majors, covering 6 disciplines including economics, management, literature, engineering, art, and education. Currently, there are 31,831 full-time students, including 18,883 undergraduates, 31 undergraduate international students, and 12,948 junior college students. The total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is 180 million yuan, and the library has a collection of over 1.738 million paper books and 6.919 million digital resources, providing students with a good learning and living environment.

学校积极推进内涵建设与国际合作，拥有国家专业综合改革试点项目1个、省级转型试点专业13个、省级一流专业12个，以及国家级虚拟教研室、一流课程建设项目各1个。与澳大利亚、德国、泰国等多个国家高校建立合作关系，通过中外合作办学项目、师生联合教学等模式，为学生提供国际化教育资源。2021年被确定为海南省第一批省级示范应用型本科高校，党建工作、创新创业教育等特色鲜明，多次获评省级以上荣誉称号。

The university actively promotes connotation construction and international cooperation, with 1 national professional comprehensive reform pilot project, 13 provincial transformation pilot majors, 12 provincial first-class majors, and 1 national virtual teaching and research office and 1 first-class course construction project respectively. It has established cooperative relations with universities in Australia, Germany, Thailand and other countries, providing students with international educational resources through Sino-foreign cooperative education programs, joint teaching by teachers and students, and other models. In 2021, it was identified as the first batch of provincial demonstration applied undergraduate universities in Hainan Province, with distinctive features in party building work and innovation and entrepreneurship education, and has been awarded provincial and above honorary titles for many times.
