海南医科大学是海南自由贸易港内唯一一所公办医学院，前身是创立于1947年的海强医事技术学校和1948年的私立海南大学医学院，2024年5月经教育部批准由海南医学院更名为海南医科大学。办学70余年来，学校为国家培养了七万余名高素质医药卫生人才，是国家第一批卓越医生教育培养计划项目试点高校、教育部第一批专业综合改革试点本科院校、海南省特色高水平大学建设单位，拥有临床医学一级学科博士学位授权点，临床医学学科进入ESI全球排名前5‰。

Hainan Medical University (HNMU) is the only public medical school in the Hainan Free Trade Port. Its predecessor was Ha Qiang Medical Technical School founded in 1947 and the Private Hainan University School of Medicine established in 1948. Approved by the Ministry of Education in May 2024, it was renamed from Hainan Medical College to Hainan Medical University. Over 70 years of办学, the university has cultivated more than 70,000 high-quality medical and health talents for the country. It is a pilot university of the first batch of Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program, the first batch of undergraduate institutions for comprehensive professional reform pilot by the Ministry of Education, and a construction unit of Hainan Provincial Characteristic High-level University. It has a doctoral degree authorization point in the first-level discipline of Clinical Medicine, and the Clinical Medicine discipline has entered the top 5‰ of ESI global ranking.

学校以热带医学为鲜明特色，构建了教学、科研、临床"三位一体"的热带医学体系，拥有热带转化医学、急救与创伤研究等3个教育部重点实验室和1个国家卫健委热带病防治重点实验室。现有专任教师1251名，其中高级职称975人，博士学位占比41.49%，柔性引进两院院士9人。开设36个本科专业，涵盖医学、理学、管理学、工学等学科门类，拥有5个国家一流本科专业建设点、2个国家级特色专业，临床医学、护理学专业于2024年通过教育部专业认证。

With distinctive characteristics in tropical medicine, the university has built a "trinity" tropical medicine system integrating teaching, scientific research and clinical practice. It has 3 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education (including Tropical Translational Medicine, Emergency and Trauma Research) and 1 key laboratory of tropical disease prevention and control of the National Health Commission. Currently, there are 1,251 full-time teachers, including 975 with senior professional titles, and 41.49% with doctoral degrees. It has flexibly introduced 9 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering. The university offers 36 undergraduate majors covering medicine, science, management, engineering and other disciplines, with 5 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites and 2 national characteristic majors. In 2024, the Clinical Medicine and Nursing programs passed the professional certification of the Ministry of Education.
