湖南民族职业学院是2003年由岳阳师范学校独立升格的全日制公办高等学校，是湖南省示范性（骨干）高职院校、湖南省高水平专业群（A类）建设单位。学校占地面积800多亩，建筑面积近20万平方米，资产7亿余元，设有6个教学院，开设26个高职专业，现有教职工900多人，在校学生15000多人。

Hunan Vocational College for Nationalities is a full-time public higher education institution upgraded independently from Yueyang Normal School in 2003. It is a demonstration (backbone) higher vocational college in Hunan Province and a construction unit for high-level professional groups (Class A) in Hunan Province. The college covers an area of over 800 mu, with a building area of nearly 200,000 square meters and assets of more than 700 million yuan. It has 6 teaching colleges offering 26 higher vocational majors, with over 900 faculty members and more than 15,000 students.

学校前身为1952年建校的岳阳师范学校，教师教育办学已有70余年历史，小学教育和学前教育专业群为湖南省一流特色专业群。1993年创办内地西藏班，累计为边疆民族地区培养10000多名人才，先后获得“全国民族团结进步模范集体”“全国教育援藏先进单位”等荣誉称号。

Founded as Yueyang Normal School in 1952, the college has a history of over 70 years in teacher education. Its primary education and preschool education professional groups are first-class characteristic professional groups in Hunan Province. Established an inland Tibet class in 1993, it has trained more than 10,000 talents for border ethnic areas and has successively won honors such as "National Model Collective for Ethnic Unity and Progress" and "National Advanced Unit for Educational Aid to Tibet".
