邵阳学院创建于1958年，医学类专业办学可追溯至1906年，2002年由原邵阳师范高等专科学校和原邵阳高等专科学校合并升格为本科院校，2016年邵阳医学高等专科学校并入。该校是经教育部批准的具有硕士学位研究生招生资格的省属多科性本科院校，为教育部和卫生部第一批卓越医生教育培养试点项目单位，2018年被确定为湖南省双一流高水平应用特色学院。

Shaoyang University was founded in 1958, with its medical programs tracing back to 1906. It was upgraded to a undergraduate institution in 2002 through the merger of the former Shaoyang Normal College and the former Shaoyang College, and incorporated Shaoyang Medical College in 2016. The university is a provincial comprehensive undergraduate institution approved by the Ministry of Education with the qualification to enroll postgraduate students for master's degrees. It is among the first batch of pilot institutions for the Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program jointly initiated by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health, and was identified as a "Double First-Class" high-level applied characteristic college in Hunan Province in 2018.

学校现有李子园、七里坪、江北等多个校区，占地面积2496亩，开设涵盖文、理、工、医、经、管、教、艺等多学科门类的专业。拥有省级重点实验室、社科研究基地等多个科研平台，注重应用型人才培养，与三一重工等企业合作密切，机械制造等专业就业优势突出。

The university has multiple campuses including Liziyuan, Qiliping, and Jiangbei, covering an area of 2496 mu. It offers programs across various disciplines such as arts, science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, education, and arts. Equipped with multiple scientific research platforms including provincial key laboratories and social science research bases, the university focuses on cultivating applied talents and has close cooperation with enterprises like Sany Heavy Industry, with prominent employment advantages in majors such as mechanical manufacturing.
