湖南体育职业学院是经湖南省人民政府批准、国家教育部备案，于2002年5月由湖南省体育运动学校（创办于1958年）和湖南职工体育运动技术学院（创办于1984年）合并组建而成的一所全日制公办普通高等职业学院，2007年接受教育部人才培养工作水平评估达到优秀等级，2015年建成为湖南省示范性（骨干）高职院校。学院被评为省直文明校园、全省平安高校、国家职业教育教师教学创新团队培训基地、中国人民武装警察部队军士人才培养基地、国家高水平体育后备人才基地、体育行业特有职业（国家级）培训基地，先后培养了熊倪、龚智超、杨霞、龙清泉、王明娟、田卿、向艳梅、侯志慧、谌利军等9名奥运冠军，唐九红等45名世界冠军以及200余名亚洲和全国冠军，被誉为“冠军的摇篮”。

Hunan Sports Vocational College is a full-time public higher vocational college approved by the Hunan Provincial People's Government and registered with the Ministry of Education. It was established in May 2002 through the merger of Hunan Sports School (founded in 1958) and Hunan Staff Sports Technical College (founded in 1984). In 2007, it received an "Excellent" rating in the Ministry of Education's talent training evaluation, and in 2015, it became a Hunan Provincial Model (Backbone) Higher Vocational College. The college has been awarded titles such as "Provincial Civilized Campus", "Provincial Safe University", "National Vocational Education Teacher Teaching Innovation Team Training Base", and "National High-Level Sports Reserve Talent Base". It has cultivated 9 Olympic champions including Xiong Ni, Gong Zhichao, Yang Xia, Long Qingquan, Wang Mingjuan, Tian Qing, Xiang Yanmei, Hou Zhihui, and Chen Lijun, as well as 45 world champions like Tang Jiuhong and over 200 Asian and national champions, earning it the reputation of "Cradle of Champions".

学院占地面积约500亩，现有教职员工368人，在籍在校学生近6000人，设置有军士学院等七院一校8个教学机构和3个教辅机构。设有运动训练、体育教育等11个专业；拥有40个校内实习实训室（基地）和1个校企共建生产性实习实训基地，各实训中心、实验室设备精良，功能齐全，设施设备水平均达到国内乃至亚洲一流。此外，在长沙、上海、广州、深圳等地建立了74个稳定的校外实习实训基地，拥有1个国家级教学团队、4个省级教学团队；3个省级A类高水平专业群，1个省级职业教育专业教学资源库，牵头制定了3个国家级专业教学标准和1个国家专业实训条件建设标准。专业建设在金苹果2022高职院校分专业类竞争力排行榜中名列体育类专业榜首。

Covering an area of approximately 500 mu, the college has 368 faculty members and nearly 6,000 enrolled students. It comprises 8 teaching institutions including the Sergeant College and 3 supporting institutions, offering 11 majors such as Sports Training and Physical Education. The college boasts 40 on-campus internships and training rooms (bases) and 1 production-oriented internship base co-built with enterprises, all equipped with first-class facilities reaching domestic and even Asian standards. Additionally, it has established 74 stable off-campus internship bases in Changsha, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, etc. The college houses 1 national-level teaching team, 4 provincial-level teaching teams, 3 provincial-level Class A high-level professional groups, and 1 provincial vocational education teaching resource database. It has led the formulation of 3 national professional teaching standards and 1 national professional training condition construction standard, ranking first in sports majors in the 2022 Golden Apple Higher Vocational College Professional Competitiveness Ranking.
