湖南涉外经济学院是经国家教育部批准成立的民办普通本科院校，创建于1997年，原名湘南文理专修学院，1998年迁址长沙市岳麓区并更名为湖南涉外经济学院（筹），2000年经湖南省人民政府批准设置为高职专科学校，2005年升格为本科院校，2015年通过教育部本科教学工作合格评估，2017年加入宇华教育集团。

Hunan International Economics University is a private ordinary undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. Founded in 1997, it was originally named Xiangnan College of Arts and Sciences. In 1998, it moved to Yuelu District, Changsha and was renamed Hunan International Economics University (Preparatory). In 2000, it was approved by the People's Government of Hunan Province to be a higher vocational college. In 2005, it was upgraded to an undergraduate college. In 2015, it passed the undergraduate teaching qualification assessment of the Ministry of Education. In 2017, it joined Yuhua Education Group.

学校秉承“至善至美，自立自强”的校训，确立了创建高水平教学应用型本科院校的办学定位，致力于培养基础扎实、具有创新意识和较强实践能力、德智体美劳全面发展的高素质应用型人才。设有9个二级学院，开设47个本科专业和8个专科专业，涵盖经济学、法学、教育学、文学、工学、管理学、艺术学7个学科门类。现有国家级一流本科专业建设点1个，国家级一流本科课程1门；省级“双一流”应用特色学科3个，省级一流本科专业建设点9个，省级一流本科课程50门。

Adhering to the school motto of "Perfection and Self-Reliance", the university has established the school-running orientation of building a high-level application-oriented undergraduate university, committed to cultivating high-quality applied talents with solid foundation, innovative awareness, strong practical ability, and all-round development of morality, intelligence, physical education, aesthetics and labor. It has 9 secondary colleges, offering 47 undergraduate majors and 8 junior college majors, covering 7 disciplines including economics, law, education, literature, engineering, management and art. There is 1 national first-class undergraduate major construction site and 1 national first-class undergraduate course; 3 provincial "Double First-Class" applied characteristic disciplines, 9 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and 50 provincial first-class undergraduate courses.

学校现有全日制在校学生31130人，其中本科生28588人，占比91.83%；教职员工1727人，自有专任教师中硕士及以上学位占比96.78%，双师双能型教师占比31.41%。校园占地面积79.01万平方米，建筑面积56.36万平方米，教学科研仪器设备总值1.31亿元，馆藏纸质图书208.41万册。先后荣获“中国民办教育创新与发展贡献奖”“湖南省优秀民办学校”等荣誉称号。

The university currently has 31,130 full-time students, including 28,588 undergraduates, accounting for 91.83%; 1,727 faculty members, with 96.78% of its own full-time teachers holding master's degrees or above, and 31.41% of "double-qualified" teachers. The campus covers an area of 790,100 square meters, with a building area of 563,600 square meters. The total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is 131 million yuan, and the collection of paper books is 2.0841 million. It has successively won honors such as "China Private Education Innovation and Development Contribution Award" and "Hunan Excellent Private School".
