湖南女子学院是由湖南省人民政府举办的全日制公办普通本科院校，创办于1985年，其前身为湖南女子职业大学。2010年经教育部批准升格为本科院校，2014年通过学士学位授权评估，2018年通过教育部本科教学工作合格评估，2021年获批湖南省硕士学位授予立项建设单位。作为新中国成立后第一所公办全日制女子普通高校，学校是全国三所独立设置的女子普通本科高校之一，全国妇联与湖南省人民政府共建高校，中国女子高校联盟理事长单位。

Hunan Women's University is a full-time public ordinary undergraduate college run by the People's Government of Hunan Province. Founded in 1985, its predecessor was Hunan Women's Vocational University. Approved by the Ministry of Education to be upgraded to an undergraduate college in 2010, it passed the bachelor's degree authorization assessment in 2014, the undergraduate teaching qualification assessment of the Ministry of Education in 2018, and was approved as a master's degree granting project construction unit in Hunan Province in 2021. As the first public full-time women's ordinary college founded after the founding of New China, it is one of the three independently established women's ordinary undergraduate colleges in China, a university jointly built by the All-China Women's Federation and the People's Government of Hunan Province, and the chairman unit of the China Women's University Alliance.

学校坐落于历史文化名城长沙市，占地面积39.83万平方米，图书馆纸质藏书128.47万册，电子图书186.32万册。现有省级及以上创新创业教育中心21个，校内实验实训教学场所192间，校外实习基地196个。面向全国23个省市招生，在校学生1.2万余人，构建了管理学、法学、经济学、文学、艺术学、教育学、工学、理学等多学科协调发展且女性教育特色鲜明的学科专业体系，拥有家政学、旅游管理2个国家级一流本科专业建设点，11个省级一流本科专业建设点。

Located in Changsha, a famous historical and cultural city, the university covers an area of 398,300 square meters. The library has 1.2847 million paper books and 1.8632 million e-books. There are 21 provincial-level or above innovation and entrepreneurship education centers, 192 on-campus experimental training teaching places, and 196 off-campus internship bases. Enrolling students from 23 provinces and cities across the country, it has more than 12,000 students. It has built a discipline and professional system with distinctive characteristics of women's education and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as management, law, economics, literature, art, education, engineering, and science. It has 2 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites (Home Economics, Tourism Management) and 11 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites.

秉承“懿德睿智 笃行臻美”的校训精神，学校坚持“教学立校、科研兴校、人才强校、特色名校”的办学理念，致力于培养德智体美劳全面发展，具有“四自”精神的高素质应用型人才。现有在职教职工近800人，其中专任教师544人，博士学位教师174人，拥有国务院政府特殊津贴专家、新世纪优秀人才支持计划人选等各类高层次人才，是湖南省文明校园、湖南省平安校园、湖南省高校就业创业工作“一把手工程”优秀单位。
