华北理工大学是一所以工、医为主，理、经、管、文、法、艺、教等多学科协调发展，具有博士硕士研究生教育、本科教育及留学生教育等多层次人才培养体系的省属重点骨干大学、省重点支持的国家一流大学建设高校。学校为河北省人民政府与原国家安全生产监督管理总局共建高校，是应急管理部、中华人民共和国国家卫生健康委员会与河北省人民政府三方共建的省部共建大学。

North China University of Science and Technology is a key provincial university with coordinated development of multiple disciplines including engineering, medicine, science, economics, management, literature, law, art, and education. It has a multi-level talent training system covering doctoral and master's education, undergraduate education, and international student education. It is a provincial key university and a provincial key supported university for building a national first-class university. The university is a joint university established by the People's Government of Hebei Province and the former State Administration of Work Safety, and a provincial-ministerial joint university jointly built by the Ministry of Emergency Management, the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China, and the People's Government of Hebei Province.

学校前身可追溯至1895年创办的天津北洋西学学堂矿务学门，历经华北煤炭医学院、河北理工大学等发展阶段，2010年由原河北理工大学和原华北煤炭医学院合并组建为河北联合大学，2015年更名为华北理工大学。学校现有主校区、建设路校区、唐山世园会校区和曹妃甸新校区，总占地面积4500余亩，建筑面积103.6万平方米。

The predecessor of the university can be traced back to the Mining Department of Tianjin Beiyang Western Learning School founded in 1895. It has gone through development stages such as North China Coal Medical College and Hebei University of Technology. In 2010, it was merged from the former Hebei University of Technology and the former North China Coal Medical College to form Hebei United University, and was renamed North China University of Science and Technology in 2015. The university currently has the main campus, Jianshe Road campus, Tangshan World Horticultural Expo campus and Caofeidian new campus, with a total area of more than 4,500 mu and a building area of 1.036 million square meters.

学校现有全日制本科生40747人、博士和硕士研究生5822人、留学生1075人，教职工3452人，其中专任教师2082人，具有博士学位的教师占比62%。学校拥有1个国家重点学科，16个国家一流本科专业建设点，28个省级一流本科专业建设点；拥有1个博士后科研流动站，3个博士学位授权一级学科，28个硕士学位授权一级学科，21个硕士专业学位授权类别。

The university currently has 40,747 full-time undergraduates, 5,822 doctoral and master students, 1,075 international students, and 3,452 faculty members, including 2,082 full-time teachers, with 62% of them having doctoral degrees. The university has 1 national key discipline, 16 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and 28 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites; it has 1 post-doctoral research station, 3 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 28 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, and 21 categories of master's professional degree authorization.
