南京特殊教育师范学院是由教育部创办，全国唯一一所独立设置，以特殊教育师资培养为主、兼残疾人事业专门人才培养的普通本科高校。学校因服务中国残疾人事业和特殊教育需求而生，于1982年在联合国儿童基金会资助支持下创办，初名南京特殊教育师范学校，开辟了中国特殊师范教育的先河。1997年划归江苏省人民政府管理，2009年成为江苏省人民政府和中国残疾人联合会共建单位，2015年更名为南京特殊教育师范学院。

Nanjing Normal University of Special Education is a public undergraduate university founded by the Ministry of Education, uniquely established in China to focus on training special education teachers and cultivating professionals for disability-related undertakings. Established in 1982 with support from the United Nations Children's Fund to serve China's disability cause and special education needs, it was initially named Nanjing Special Education Normal School, pioneering special education teacher training in China. Transferred to Jiangsu Provincial Government administration in 1997, it became a joint institution of the Jiangsu Provincial Government and China Disabled Persons' Federation in 2009, and was renamed to its current title in 2015.

学校现有栖霞、江宁和浦口三个校区，全日制在校生9005人（含单考单招残障学生240余人）。设有10个学院、27个本科专业，涵盖教育学、文学、理学等七大学科门类，拥有国家级一流本科专业建设点2个、省级一流本科专业建设点12个，国家级一流本科课程4门。建有中国特殊教育博物馆、南京无障碍图书馆（盲文藏书量居国内高校前列）及多个省级科研平台，承担国家级科研项目20余项，获国家级教学成果奖二等奖2项。建校42年来培养3万余名人才，涌现出全国教书育人楷模、感动中国年度人物等优秀校友，被誉为“中国特殊教育师资培养的摇篮”。

The university has three campuses in Qixia, Jiangning, and Pukou, with 9,005 full-time students (including over 240 students with disabilities admitted through special examinations). It comprises 10 colleges offering 27 undergraduate programs across seven disciplines including Education, Literature, and Science. The university boasts 2 national-level first-class undergraduate program construction sites, 12 provincial-level ones, and 4 national-level first-class undergraduate courses. It houses the China Special Education Museum, Nanjing Accessible Library (with the largest braille collection among Chinese universities), and multiple provincial research platforms. Having undertaken over 20 national-level research projects and won 2 second prizes in National Teaching Achievement Awards, it has educated over 30,000 professionals in 42 years, producing outstanding alumni such as National Model Teachers and "Touching China" awardees, earning the reputation as "the cradle of special education teachers in China."

学校现有教职工750人，专任教师中高级职称占比50%、博士占比40%，拥有国务院特殊津贴专家、省教学名师等百余人。作为全国首批残疾人高等融合教育试点学校，荣获“全国特殊教育先进单位”“国家级语言文字规范化示范校”等称号，是中国盲文手语推广服务中心、江苏省特殊教育师资培训中心，主动服务国家对外开放战略，广泛开展国际交流合作，办学综合实力和社会影响力持续提升。

With 750 faculty members, 50% of full-time teachers hold senior professional titles and 40% have doctoral degrees, including experts with State Council Special Allowances and provincial teaching masters. As one of China's first pilot universities for inclusive higher education for persons with disabilities, it has been awarded titles like "National Advanced Unit in Special Education" and "National Model School for Language Standardization." Serving as the National Braille and Sign Language Promotion Center and Jiangsu Special Education Teacher Training Center, the university actively engages in international exchanges, continuously enhancing its comprehensive strength and social influence.
