莆田学院位于福建东南沿海、海上和平女神妈祖故乡、著名侨乡——莆田市，是2002年3月经教育部批准成立的全日制普通本科大学，实行省市共建、以省为主管理体制。学校现有全日制普通本科学生2.3万人，教职工1783人，2021年10月获批硕士学位授予单位，2022年入选福建省A类一流应用型建设高校。

Putian University is located in Putian City, a famous hometown of overseas Chinese and the birthplace of Mazu, the Goddess of Peace at Sea, on the southeast coast of Fujian Province. Approved by the Ministry of Education in March 2002, it is a full-time ordinary undergraduate university under the management system of joint construction by provinces and cities, with the province as the main body. The university currently has 23,000 full-time undergraduate students and 1,783 faculty members. It was approved as a master's degree-granting unit in October 2021 and selected as a Class A first-class applied construction university in Fujian Province in 2022.

学校明确应用型、地方性、开放式、特色化的办学定位，坚持“做大工科、做强医科、做实文理、做精师艺”及“工科搞特色，医科走基层，文理转应用，师艺留精品”的学科专业发展思路。下设16个二级学院，44个本科专业，形成以工科、医科、管理为主干的八大专业群，涵盖理、工、文、管、医、教、艺等七大学科门类。

The university has a clear school-running orientation of being application-oriented, local, open and distinctive, adhering to the discipline development strategy of "expanding engineering, strengthening medical science, solidifying liberal arts and sciences, and refining teacher education and arts", with the approach of "engineering with characteristics, medical science serving grassroots, liberal arts and sciences transforming to application, and teacher education and arts retaining essence". It has 16 secondary colleges and 44 undergraduate majors, forming eight major professional groups with engineering, medical science and management as the backbone, covering seven disciplines including science, engineering, literature, management, medicine, education and art.

学校注重实践教学和应用型人才培养，是教育部、卫生部第一批卓越医生教育培养计划项目试点单位。拥有国家级大学生校外实践教育基地1个、省级实验教学示范中心7个，临床医学专业通过教育部专业认证，20个专业获省级以上特色专业建设立项。科研方面建有省级重点实验室、工程研究中心及妈祖文化研究等省部级人文社科基地8个。

Focusing on practical teaching and application-oriented talent cultivation, the university is one of the first pilot units of the Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program jointly initiated by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health. It has 1 national-level off-campus practice education base for college students and 7 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration centers. Its Clinical Medicine program has passed the professional certification of the Ministry of Education, and 20 majors have been approved for provincial-level or above characteristic major construction projects. In scientific research, it has 8 provincial-level key laboratories, engineering research centers, and provincial-level humanities and social science bases including Mazu Culture Research.

学校获评全国绿化模范单位、中国心理学会心理健康教育先进单位、福建省文明学校等荣誉称号，校园占地面积1666.8亩，规划建设中的新校区占地2970亩，馆藏图书（含电子图书）568多万册，直属附属医院1所，非直属附属医院3所，为人才培养和地方发展提供有力支撑。

The university has been awarded honors such as National Model Unit for Afforestation, Advanced Unit for Mental Health Education by the Chinese Psychological Society, and Civilized School of Fujian Province. It covers an area of 1,666.8 mu, with a planned new campus of 2,970 mu. The library has over 5.68 million books (including e-books). It has 1 directly affiliated hospital and 3 non-directly affiliated hospitals, providing strong support for talent cultivation and local development.
