上海海洋大学是多科性应用研究型大学，上海市人民政府与国家海洋局、农业农村部共建高校，国家“双一流”建设高校。学校前身是1912年创建的江苏省立水产学校，历经发展，于1952年升格为中国第一所本科水产院校——上海水产学院，1985年更名为上海水产大学，2008年更名为上海海洋大学。

Shanghai Ocean University is a multidisciplinary applied research university, jointly established by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the State Oceanic Administration, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. It is also a university under the national "Double First-Class" Initiative. The university traces its roots to the Jiangsu Provincial Fisheries School founded in 1912. After years of development, it was upgraded to Shanghai Fisheries College in 1952, China's first undergraduate fisheries institution. It was renamed Shanghai Fisheries University in 1985 and later assumed its current name in 2008.

学校以海洋、水产、食品学科为特色，农、理、工、经、管、文、法等学科协调发展。拥有国家级一流本科专业建设点24个，国家级特色专业5个，上海市级一流本科专业建设点11个。学校现有教职工1500余人，全日制本科生近12000人、研究生5000余人，留学生500余人。

With distinctive strengths in marine science, fisheries, and food science, the university promotes coordinated development of disciplines including agriculture, science, engineering, economics, management, liberal arts, and law. It houses 24 national-level first-class undergraduate program construction sites, 5 national-level characteristic specialties, and 11 Shanghai municipal-level first-class undergraduate program construction sites. The university has over 1,500 faculty members, nearly 12,000 full-time undergraduates, more than 5,000 graduate students, and over 500 international students.

学校注重科研创新，建有国家远洋渔业工程技术研究中心、国家海洋生物科学国际联合研究中心等国家级科研平台10个，省部级科研平台40余个。近年来，学校在远洋渔业、水产养殖、食品安全等领域取得了一系列重大科研成果，为我国海洋事业和水产行业发展作出了重要贡献。

The university emphasizes scientific research innovation, hosting 10 national-level research platforms such as the National Engineering Research Center for Distant-Water Fisheries and the National International Joint Research Center for Marine Bioscience, along with over 40 provincial and ministerial-level research platforms. In recent years, it has achieved significant scientific research outcomes in distant-water fisheries, aquaculture, food safety, and other fields, making important contributions to China's marine undertakings and fisheries industry development.

学校积极开展国际交流与合作，与30多个国家和地区的100余所高校、科研机构建立了合作关系，入选教育部“高等学校学科创新引智计划”（“111计划”）。通过学生交换、联合培养、科研合作等形式，培养具有国际视野和竞争力的高素质人才。

The university actively engages in international exchanges and cooperation, having established partnerships with over 100 universities and research institutions in more than 30 countries and regions. It is included in the Ministry of Education's "Program of Introducing Talents of Discipline to Universities" (the "111 Plan"). Through student exchanges, joint education programs, and research collaborations, it cultivates high-quality talents with international perspectives and competitiveness.
