上海第二工业大学是一所以工科为主，工、理、经、管、文、法、艺等学科协调发展的上海市属普通高等学校，以培养应用型、技术技能型人才为主要目标。学校创建于1960年，历经上海第二工业大学筹备委员会、上海第二工业局半工半读中等专业学校、上海市业余工业大学等阶段，1984年更名为上海第二工业大学，2000年起实施全日制普通本科教育，2010年通过教育部本科教学工作合格评估，2012年成为“服务国家特殊需求人才培养项目”硕士专业学位研究生培养试点单位，2018年成为上海市博士学位授予单位立项建设单位。

Shanghai Polytechnic University is a public university in Shanghai with engineering as its main focus, and coordinated development of disciplines such as science, economics, management, literature, law, and art. Its primary goal is to cultivate applied and technical-skilled talents. Founded in 1960, the university has gone through stages such as the Preparatory Committee of Shanghai Second Polytechnic University, Shanghai Second Industrial Bureau Part-work and Part-study Secondary Professional School, and Shanghai Amateur Industrial University. It was renamed Shanghai Polytechnic University in 1984, started implementing full-time ordinary undergraduate education in 2000, passed the undergraduate teaching qualification assessment of the Ministry of Education in 2010, became a pilot unit for cultivating master's degree graduates under the "Talent Training Program for Serving National Special Needs" in 2012, and was approved as a Shanghai doctoral degree-granting unit construction unit in 2018.

学校始终坚持“工科引领、应用为本、产教融合、协同创新”的办学理念，紧密对接上海“五个中心”建设和产业发展需求，形成了以智能制造、电子信息、新材料、环境工程、经济管理、文化创意等为特色的学科专业体系。现有全日制在校生近13000人，其中本科生11000余人，硕士研究生近1000人，留学生300余人。教职工近1000人，其中专任教师600余人，具有高级职称的教师占比超过40%，具有博士学位的教师占比超过60%，拥有一批国家级、省部级人才和教学名师。

The university has always adhered to the school-running philosophy of "engineering-led, application-oriented, industry-education integration, and collaborative innovation", closely aligning with Shanghai's construction of "five centers" and industrial development needs. It has formed a disciplinary and professional system featuring intelligent manufacturing, electronic information, new materials, environmental engineering, economic management, cultural creativity, etc. Currently, there are nearly 13,000 full-time students, including over 11,000 undergraduates, nearly 1,000 master's students, and over 300 international students. There are nearly 1,000 faculty and staff, including over 600 full-time teachers. Teachers with senior professional titles account for more than 40%, and those with doctoral degrees account for more than 60%. It has a group of national and provincial-level talents and teaching masters.

学校现有临港、浦东金海路两个校区，总占地面积近800亩，校舍建筑面积近40万平方米。教学科研仪器设备总值近5亿元，图书馆纸质藏书近150万册，电子图书近200万册。拥有国家级一流本科专业建设点10个，国家级特色专业3个，国家级精品课程3门，国家级一流本科课程5门，上海市一流本科专业建设点15个，上海市特色专业10个。建有国家级实验教学示范中心1个，国家级虚拟仿真实验教学中心1个，国家级工程实践教育中心3个，上海市级实验教学示范中心5个，与行业企业共建了一批现代产业学院和实习实训基地。

The university has two campuses: Lingang and Pudong Jinhai Road, covering a total area of nearly 800 mu, with a school building area of nearly 400,000 square meters. The total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is nearly 500 million yuan. The library has nearly 1.5 million paper books and nearly 2 million electronic books. It has 10 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 3 national characteristic majors, 3 national excellent courses, 5 national first-class undergraduate courses, 15 Shanghai first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and 10 Shanghai characteristic majors. It has built 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, 3 national engineering practice education centers, 5 Shanghai-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, and co-built a number of modern industrial colleges and internship training bases with industry enterprises.
