汕头大学是1981年经国务院批准成立的广东省属综合性大学，是教育部、广东省、李嘉诚基金会三方共建的省部共建大学，也是全球唯一一所由私人基金会——李嘉诚基金会持续资助的公立大学。学校位于广东省汕头市，校园占地面积1990.20亩，建筑面积56.80万平方米。

Shantou University is a comprehensive university under the provincial government of Guangdong Province, approved by the State Council in 1981. It is a university jointly built by the Ministry of Education, Guangdong Province, and the Li Ka Shing Foundation. It is also the only public university in the world continuously funded by a private foundation, the Li Ka Shing Foundation. The university is located in Shantou City, Guangdong Province, covering an area of 1990.20 mu with a building area of 568,000 square meters.

学校以“立心、立命、立学、立德”为校训，致力于培养具有国际视野、家国情怀、创新精神和实践能力的高素质人才。设有文学院、理学院、工学院、医学院、法学院、商学院等13个学院，开设53个本科专业，拥有一级学科博士学位授权点6个、一级学科硕士学位授权点19个，博士后科研流动站5个。
