山西旅游职业学院前身是始建于1980年的山西省计划统计学校，1994年成为全省首批国家级重点中专，1999年开始举办高职教育，2004年经山西省人民政府批准、教育部备案，转型升格为山西省第一所独立设置的全日制公办旅游高等职业院校。

Shanxi Vocational College of Tourism originated from Shanxi Provincial Planning and Statistics School founded in 1980. In 1994, it became one of the first national key technical secondary schools in the province. It started higher vocational education in 1999 and was upgraded to the first independent full-time public tourism vocational college in Shanxi Province with the approval of Shanxi Provincial People's Government and the record of the Ministry of Education in January 2004.

学院现有7系2部1院10个教学单位，开设旅游管理、酒店管理与数字化运营、烹饪工艺与营养等42个专业，其中省级重点专业2个、骨干专业3个、特色专业2个。拥有中央财政支持实训基地1个、省级示范实训基地5个，教职工310人，全日制在校生4899人，已累计培养旅游行业人才2万余名，是山西省旅游职业教育的核心基地。

The college has 10 teaching units including 7 departments, 2 divisions and 1 institute, offering 42 majors such as tourism management, hotel management and digital operation, cooking technology and nutrition. Among them, there are 2 provincial key majors, 3 backbone majors and 2 characteristic majors. It has 1 training base supported by the central finance and 5 provincial demonstration training bases, with 310 faculty members and 4,899 full-time students. It has cultivated more than 20,000 tourism talents, serving as the core base for tourism vocational education in Shanxi Province.
