山西艺术职业学院前身是始建于1951年的山西省艺术学校，人民艺术家、著名版画家力群为首任校长。1958年升格为本科层次的山西艺术学院，此后几经分合与易名，2000年与山西职工文学院联合改制为山西艺术职业学院，成为全国第一所高职类艺术院校，标志着山西艺术教育进入新的发展阶段。

Shanxi Vocational College of Art traces its roots to Shanxi Art School founded in 1951, with the renowned people's artist and printmaker Li Qun serving as its first president. It was upgraded to the undergraduate-level Shanxi Art College in 1958, undergoing several mergers, separations, and name changes before merging with Shanxi Workers' College of Liberal Arts in 2000 to form the current vocational college, becoming China's first higher vocational art institution and marking a new era in Shanxi's art education.

学院主校区位于太原市并州东街，另有西华苑校区，总占地面积103.8亩，建筑总面积72271.81平方米。现有在校生3000余人，在编教职工300余人，享受国务院政府特殊津贴专家1人，聘请于平、余秋雨、张继钢等80余位知名人士担任客座教授。设有16个教学系部，开设音乐、舞蹈、美术、表演等22个高职专业，拥有中央财政支持重点专业2个、省级特色专业3个，国家级精品课程1门、省级精品课程6门。

The college's main campus is located on Bingzhou East Street in Taiyuan, with an additional Xihuayuan campus, covering a total area of 103.8 mu (approximately 69,200 square meters) and a total building area of 72,271.81 square meters. It currently has over 3,000 students and more than 300 faculty members, including one expert receiving special government allowances from the State Council and over 80 visiting professors such as Yu Ping, Yu Qiuyu, and Zhang Jigang. The college comprises 16 teaching departments offering 22 vocational programs in fields like music, dance, fine arts, and performance, featuring 2 key majors supported by central finance, 3 provincial-level characteristic majors, 1 national excellent course, and 6 provincial excellent courses.
