山西艺术职业学院前身是始建于1951年的山西省艺术学校,人民艺术家、著名版画家力群为首任校长。1958年升格为本科层次的山西艺术学院,此后几经分合与易名,2000年与山西职工文学院联合改制为山西艺术职业学院,成为全国第一所高职类艺术院校,标志着山西艺术教育进入新的发展阶段。

The college's main campus is located on Bingzhou East Street in Taiyuan, with an additional Xihuayuan campus, covering a total area of 103.8 mu (approximately 69,200 square meters) and a total building area of 72,271.81 square meters. It currently has over 3,000 students and more than 300 faculty members, including one expert receiving special government allowances from the State Council and over 80 visiting professors such as Yu Ping, Yu Qiuyu, and Zhang Jigang.
