太原工业学院坐落于山西省省会——太原市，是山西省人民政府管理的以工为主，以工程应用为特色，涵盖工、理、经、管、艺、教等学科门类，多学科相互支撑、协调发展的全日制普通本科高校，是国家“十三五”应用型本科产教融合发展工程规划项目支持高校，是山西省确定的向应用型转变首批试点高校，是山西省深化创新创业教育改革示范高校。

Taiyuan Institute of Technology is located in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province. It is a full-time ordinary undergraduate university managed by the People's Government of Shanxi Province, focusing on engineering with engineering application characteristics. It covers disciplines such as engineering, science, economics, management, art, and education, with multiple disciplines supporting and developing coordinately. It is a university supported by the National 13th Five-Year Plan for Applied Undergraduate Industry-Education Integration Development Project, one of the first pilot universities in Shanxi Province to transform into application-oriented universities, and a demonstration university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform in Shanxi Province.

学校创建于1954年，前身为华北第五工业学校，是我国第一个五年计划时期为国防建设需要建立的一所国家重点中专，1988年升格为专科，1999年开始招收本科生，2007年3月经教育部批准，独立设置为省属公办全日制本科高校，更名为太原工业学院。70年来，学校传承兵工优良传统，践行“知行合一、行胜于言”校训，弘扬“忠诚奉献、务实笃行、自强不息、奋进创新”的太工精神，为国防工业和国家经济建设培养了近10万德才兼备、具有创新精神、创业意识和实践能力的德、智、体、美、劳全面发展的高素质、应用型人才。

Founded in 1954, the school was formerly known as North China No. 5 Industrial School, a national key secondary specialized school established for national defense construction during China's first Five-Year Plan period. It was upgraded to a junior college in 1988, began enrolling undergraduates in 1999, and was approved by the Ministry of Education in March 2007 to be independently established as a provincial public full-time undergraduate university, renamed Taiyuan Institute of Technology. Over the past 70 years, inheriting the fine tradition of ordnance industry, practicing the school motto of "Unity of Knowledge and Action, Action Speaks Louder than Words", and promoting the "Taitong Spirit" of "Loyalty and Dedication, Pragmatism and笃行, Self-Improvement, Endeavor and Innovation", the school has cultivated nearly 100,000 high-quality application-oriented talents with both ability and political integrity, innovative spirit, entrepreneurial awareness and practical ability, developing morally, intellectually, physically, aesthetically and laboriously for the national defense industry and national economic construction.

学校占地面积39.27万平方米，建筑总面积37.89万平方米。固定资产总值11.89亿元，其中教学科研仪器设备总值2.69亿元。图书馆藏书242.71万册（含电子图书96.16万册）。设有11个教学系和3个教学部，现有本科专业51个，面向全国28个省（市、区）招生，全日制在校生16429人。现有教职工1055人，其中专任教师916人，具有高级职称的教师317人，获得博士学位的教师303人。拥有国家级一流本科课程1门，省级一流专业建设点8个，省级实验教学示范中心6个，省级虚拟仿真实验教学中心2个。

The school covers an area of 392,700 square meters with a total building area of 378,900 square meters. The total value of fixed assets is 1.189 billion yuan, including 269 million yuan worth of teaching and research instruments and equipment. The library has a collection of 2.4271 million books (including 961,600 e-books). It has 11 teaching departments and 3 teaching divisions, with 51 undergraduate majors currently, enrolling students from 28 provinces (cities, districts) across the country, and 16,429 full-time students. There are 1,055 faculty members, including 916 full-time teachers, 317 with senior professional titles, and 303 with doctoral degrees. It has 1 national first-class undergraduate course, 8 provincial first-class professional construction sites, 6 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 2 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching centers.

学校围绕立德树人、强化实践、突出应用、服务社会的办学理念，开展应用型本科教育教学工作。机器人队十年八次挺进全国十六强，勇夺第十三届、二十四届全国大学生机器人大赛冠军。在《全国普通高校大学生竞赛》中四次进入单年前100榜单，2022年位列第76。2023年，作为山西省试点院校高质量通过教育部新一轮本科教育教学审核评估。

Centering on the school-running philosophy of establishing morality and cultivating people, strengthening practice, highlighting application, and serving the society, the school carries out application-oriented undergraduate education and teaching. The robot team has entered the national top 16 eight times in ten years and won the championships of the 13th and 24th National College Student Robot Competitions. It has entered the top 100 list of the "National College Students' Competitions" four times in a single year, ranking 76th in 2022. In 2023, as a pilot university in Shanxi Province, it successfully passed the new round of undergraduate education and teaching audit and evaluation by the Ministry of Education with high quality.
