太原科技大学是新中国第一所重型机械本科院校,是一所办学特色鲜明的多科性大学,也是我国重大技术装备领域重要的人才培养和科技研发基地。学校是教育部本科教学工作水平评估优秀高校(2006年)、教育部中西部高校基础能力建设工程支持高校(2016年)、全国第二批深化创新创业教育改革示范高校(2017年)。
Taiyuan University of Science and Technology is the first undergraduate institution of heavy machinery in New China. It is a multidisciplinary university with distinctive办学特色 and an important base for talent cultivation and scientific research in the field of major technical equipment in China. The university was awarded "Excellent" in the undergraduate teaching level evaluation by the Ministry of Education (2006), supported by the Ministry of Education's中西部高校基础能力建设工程 (2016), and listed as the second batch of national demonstration universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform (2017).
1952年,学校前身山西省机械制造工业学校创建,近代中国机械工业奠基人、中国内燃机研制先驱支秉渊先生出任校长。1953年学校划归中央第一机械工业部,1955年长春汽校、汉口机器制造学校锻冲专业并入,1960年更名为太原重型机械学院,1965年大连工学院、沈阳机电学院起重输送机械专业并入,2004年更名为太原科技大学。学校秉承“负重奋进,笃行求实”的精神,经过近七十年不懈努力,现已发展成为一所以工为主,文理科为两翼,装备制造主流学科特色鲜明,理学、工学、法学、文学、经济学、管理学、艺术学、教育学等八大学科门类相互支撑,学士、硕士、博士多层次教育合理衔接的研究应用型大学。
Founded in 1952 as Shanxi Provincial Machinery Manufacturing Industry School, the predecessor of the university, Mr. Zhi Bingyuan, a founder of modern Chinese machinery industry and a pioneer in Chinese internal combustion engine research, served as the first president. In 1953, the school was placed under the jurisdiction of the First Ministry of Machinery Industry of the Central Government. In 1955, the forging and stamping majors of Changchun Automobile School and Hankou Machinery Manufacturing School were merged into it. In 1960, it was renamed Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Institute, and in 1965, the hoisting and conveying machinery majors of Dalian Institute of Technology and Shenyang Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering were incorporated. In 2004, it was renamed Taiyuan University of Science and Technology. Adhering to the spirit of "Enduring Hardships and Striving Forward, Practicing Earnestly and Seeking Truth", after nearly 70 years of unremitting efforts, the university has developed into a research-oriented application university with engineering as the main focus, liberal arts and sciences as the two wings, distinctive characteristics in the mainstream disciplines of equipment manufacturing, and mutual support among eight disciplines including science, engineering, law, literature, economics, management, art, and education, with a reasonable connection of bachelor's, master's, and doctoral education.
