中国农业大学是我国现代农业高等教育的起源地，历史起自1905年成立的京师大学堂农科大学。1949年9月，由北京大学农学院、清华大学农学院和华北农业大学合并为北京农业大学。1952年10月，北京农业大学农业机械系与华北农业机械专科学校、中央农业部机耕学校合并成立北京机械化农业学院，1953年7月更名为北京农业机械化学院，1985年更名为北京农业工程大学。1995年9月，北京农业大学与北京农业工程大学合并成立中国农业大学，江泽民同志亲自题写校名。

China Agricultural University (CAU) is the birthplace of modern agricultural higher education in China, with its history dating back to the Agricultural College of Peking University founded in 1905. In September 1949, it was merged from the Agricultural Colleges of Peking University, Tsinghua University and North China University to form Beijing Agricultural University. In October 1952, the Agricultural Machinery Department of Beijing Agricultural University merged with North China Agricultural Machinery College and the Mechanized Farming School of the Central Ministry of Agriculture to establish Beijing Mechanized Agricultural College, which was renamed Beijing Agricultural Mechanization College in July 1953 and Beijing Agricultural Engineering University in 1985. In September 1995, Beijing Agricultural University and Beijing Agricultural Engineering University merged to form China Agricultural University, with the school name inscribed by Comrade Jiang Zemin.

历经百年发展，中国农业大学已成为一所以农学、生命科学、农业工程和食品科学为特色和优势的研究型大学，形成了农业与生命科学、资源与环境科学、信息与计算机科学、农业工程与自动化科学、经济管理与社会科学等特色鲜明、优势互补的学科群。学校拥有19个国家级一流本科专业建设点，14个国家级特色专业，6个国家重点一级学科，均在全国排名第一，排名第一的学科数量居全国高校第4位；在ESI学科评价中，农业科学、植物与动物科学等9个学科进入全球前1%，其中农业科学、植物与动物科学进入全球前1‰。

After a century of development, CAU has grown into a research-oriented university with distinctive strengths in agriculture, life sciences, agricultural engineering, and food science. It has formed interdisciplinary clusters with complementary advantages, including Agriculture and Life Sciences, Resources and Environmental Sciences, Information and Computer Sciences, Agricultural Engineering and Automation, and Economic Management and Social Sciences. The university boasts 19 national first-class undergraduate program construction sites, 14 national characteristic specialties, and 6 national key first-level disciplines, all ranking first in China, with the number of top-ranked disciplines ranking 4th among national universities. In the ESI discipline evaluation, 9 disciplines including Agricultural Sciences and Plant & Animal Sciences have entered the top 1% globally, with Agricultural Sciences and Plant & Animal Sciences entering the top 1‰ globally.

学校坚持社会主义办学方向，以立德树人为根本，以强农兴农为己任，培养了大批拔尖创新人才和行业领军人才。现有专任教师1641人，其中教授（含研究员）581人、副教授（含副研究员）832人；全日制本科生11395名，全日制研究生7661名。学校重视国际交流与合作，与39个国家和地区的188所大学、研究单位建立了友好合作关系，为我国农业现代化和世界农业科技发展作出了重要贡献。

Adhering to the socialist orientation in running the university, CAU takes moral education as its foundation and strengthening agriculture and invigorating agriculture as its mission, cultivating a large number of top innovative talents and industry leaders. It has 1,641 full-time teachers, including 581 professors (including researchers) and 832 associate professors (including associate researchers); 11,395 full-time undergraduates and 7,661 full-time postgraduates. The university attaches great importance to international exchanges and cooperation, having established friendly cooperative relations with 188 universities and research institutions in 39 countries and regions, making important contributions to China's agricultural modernization and global agricultural science and technology development.
