Established in 1954, its history dates back to the 1920s. UNE's teaching philosophy is student-centered, emphasizing personalized education and practical ability development, offering flexible on-campus and online learning modes. The university comprises three faculties—Faculty of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences and Education; Faculty of Medicine and Health; and Faculty of Science, Agriculture, Business and Law—offering over 200 courses from undergraduate to doctoral levels, with particular strengths in agriculture, environmental science, education, and health. According to the 2020 Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) survey, UNE ranked 3rd and 4th nationally in postgraduate and undergraduate student experience quality respectively, and has been rated a 5-star university for overall student experience for 13 consecutive years.
