The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), a member of the University of Texas System, is a public comprehensive research university. It originated as the Texas School of Mines and Metallurgy founded in 1914 and adopted its current name in 1967 after several renamings. Recognized by China's Ministry of Education, the university is renowned for its distinctive Bhutanese architectural style on campus. Located in El Paso, a vibrant international city on the U.S.-Mexico border, it plays a significant role in trade, processing and distribution, as well as health care and higher education.

UTEP is the only doctoral-granting research university in the United States with a majority Mexican-American student population, where 73% of students come from Spanish-speaking backgrounds. It has earned national acclaim for serving the Hispanic community, the largest ethnic minority in the U.S. Academically, it excels in engineering, business, and health sciences, housing colleges such as the College of Business, College of Engineering, College of Health Sciences, and College of Liberal Arts. Offering over 100 programs including Accounting, Computer Engineering, Physical Therapy, and Anthropology, its Civil Engineering and Computer Science programs in the College of Engineering, along with Business Administration in the College of Business, hold strong regional influence.
