武汉科技大学是湖北省人民政府、教育部和六家国家特大型企业共建高校，是湖北省“双一流”建设高校，国家“中西部高校基础能力建设工程”入选高校。学校办学历史溯源于1898年清末湖广总督张之洞奏请清政府创办的湖北工艺学堂，历经百余年的发展，已成为一所以工为主，理工结合，工、理、管、医、文、经、法、哲、艺等多学科协调发展，办学特色鲜明的高水平大学。

Wuhan University of Science and Technology is a university co-constructed by the People's Government of Hubei Province, the Ministry of Education, and six national super-large enterprises. It is a "Double First-Class" construction university in Hubei Province and a university selected into the "Basic Capacity Building Project for Universities in Central and Western China". The school's history can be traced back to the Hubei Institute of Technology founded in 1898 by Zhang Zhidong, the governor of Huguang in the late Qing Dynasty, with the approval of the Qing government. After more than a hundred years of development, it has become a high-level university with distinctive school-running characteristics, focusing on engineering, combining science and engineering, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as engineering, science, management, medicine, literature, economics, law, philosophy, and art.

学校现有青山、黄家湖和洪山三个校区，校园总面积171.43万平方米，校舍建筑面积129.07万平方米。学校设有20个学院（部），开设77个本科专业；拥有8个博士后科研流动站，8个一级学科博士学位授权点，39个一级学科硕士学位授权点，21个硕士专业学位类别。学校现有教职工2600余人，其中专任教师1800余人；全日制普通本科生24000余人，博士、硕士研究生8000余人。

The university currently has three campuses: Qingshan, Huangjiahu and Hongshan, with a total campus area of 1.7143 million square meters and a building area of 1.2907 million square meters. The university has 20 colleges (departments) and offers 77 undergraduate majors; it has 8 post-doctoral research stations, 8 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 39 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, and 21 master's professional degree categories. The university currently has more than 2,600 faculty members, including more than 1,800 full-time teachers; more than 24,000 full-time ordinary undergraduates, and more than 8,000 doctoral and master's students.
