新疆财经大学是自治区人民政府创办的重点大学之一。其前身是1950年成立的新疆省人民政府干部培训班；1959年升格为新疆财经学院；1962年转制为新疆财贸学校；1980年经国务院批准恢复新疆财经学院建制。2000年，新疆财经学院与新疆经济管理干部学院和新疆财政税务学校合并组建新的新疆财经学院；2007年经教育部批准，更名为新疆财经大学。学校现有经济学、管理学、法学、工学、理学、文学和交叉学科七大学科，已形成以本科生教育、研究生教育、继续教育为主要办学形式，多学科、多层次的办学格局和体系。

Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics is one of the key universities founded by the People's Government of the Autonomous Region. Its predecessor was the Training Class for Cadres of the People's Government of Xinjiang Province established in 1950; it was upgraded to Xinjiang College of Finance and Economics in 1959; transformed into Xinjiang Finance and Trade School in 1962; and resumed the establishment of Xinjiang College of Finance and Economics with the approval of the State Council in 1980. In 2000, Xinjiang College of Finance and Economics merged with Xinjiang Institute of Economic Management Cadres and Xinjiang School of Finance and Taxation to form a new Xinjiang College of Finance and Economics; in 2007, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was renamed Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics. The university currently has seven disciplines: Economics, Management, Law, Engineering, Science, Literature, and Interdisciplinary Studies, forming a multi-disciplinary and multi-level school-running pattern and system with undergraduate education, postgraduate education, and continuing education as the main forms of school-running.

学校现有普通本科生16424人，硕士研究生2783人，博士研究生104人，成人本科生11000人。在编专任教师926人，具有高级职称专任教师295人，具有博士学位专任教师308人。拥有应用经济学和工商管理学2个一级学科博士学位授权点、9个一级学科硕士学位授权点、15个硕士专业学位授权点。现有43个本科专业、4个国家级特色专业、1个教育部综合改革试点专业、16个国家级一流本科专业建设点。学校秉持“经世济公、至善至诚”的校训，发扬“自强不息、严谨求实、开放包容、与时俱进”的大学精神，正朝着建设新疆名牌、西北一流、全国知名、辐射中亚的自治区特色高水平大学的目标稳步迈进。

The university currently has 16,424 ordinary undergraduates, 2,783 postgraduates, 104 doctoral students, and 11,000 adult undergraduates. There are 926 in-service full-time teachers, including 295 with senior professional titles and 308 with doctoral degrees. It has 2 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points in Applied Economics and Business Administration, 9 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, and 15 professional master's degree authorization points. There are 43 undergraduate majors, 4 national-level characteristic majors, 1 comprehensive reform pilot major of the Ministry of Education, and 16 national-level first-class undergraduate major construction sites. Upholding the school motto of "Serve the World with Integrity, Strive for Perfection with Sincerity" and carrying forward the university spirit of "Self-improvement, Rigorousness and Pragmatism, Openness and Inclusiveness, Keeping Pace with the Times", the university is steadily moving towards the goal of building a distinctive high-level university in the autonomous region that is a famous brand in Xinjiang, first-class in Northwest China, nationally renowned, and radiating to Central Asia.
