University of Colombo is Sri Lanka's top institution of higher education, located in the capital city of Colombo. Its history dates back to the Ceylon Medical College founded in 1870, and it was officially established as a university in 1942. Today, it has developed into a comprehensive national university. As a key center for higher education and research in Sri Lanka, it is also an academically influential institution in South Asia, ranked 251-300 in the QS Asian University Rankings 2024 with strengths in social sciences and clinical medicine.

科伦坡大学下设7个系、43个学术部门及7个研究所，提供艺术、科学、医学、管理等多领域的本科及研究生课程。其人文学院传播与创意艺术系、斯里帕利校区大众传媒系开设新闻与传播教育，并与多国高校开展合作。该校还设有斯里兰卡规模最大的孔子学院，积极推动中斯学术与文化交流。

The university comprises 7 faculties, 43 academic departments, and 7 research institutes, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs in arts, sciences, medicine, management, and other fields. Its Faculty of Humanities' Department of Communication and Creative Arts, along with the Mass Media Department at the Sri Palee Campus, provide journalism and communication education and collaborate with universities worldwide. It also hosts Sri Lanka's largest Confucius Institute, actively promoting Sino-Sri Lankan academic and cultural exchanges.
